For days after father had told us the good news, our hope was restored. The hope that I would return to school, this time, under the watch of my parents with the child care support I could get.

However, the hope was not to dwell for long as it was brutally dashed as fast as it came.

Very early in the morning, one day, a police car drove in and parked just in front of our house. Soon after, I heard knocks. Confused,I ran as fast as my legs could carry me to my father's room

"Father, father. The police is here oo. I can see many of the policemen coming out of their car", I exaggerated in the heat of the moment.

" Ehn..Maybe they are those that are investigating our case. Definitely, they have seen a leading evidence that we can use to charge them to court. Go ahead to open the door. I'll be with you shortly ", he said, very happily.

That had to be the best news I have heard in months as I hurriedly went ahead to open the door. Already feeling tired from the exercises, I steadied myself, taking long breaths and walked to the door with normal steps

" Good morning. We are state CIDs from Agodi police station. Is Mr. Bamidele in?"

"Yes, that's my father. He said he will be with us shortly. Please come in and have your seats while I serve you water.", I replied, already feeling discomfort.

These men look too serious for the kind of good news they brought. Or is this how policemen generally are?, I thought as I kept studying them.

" There will be no need for that. You could help us hurry your father up. That will be a more appreciated gesture", one of them said, staring intently at my baby bump.

"Of course", I replied. Anything to get away from these men.

As I turned to fetch him, I saw him already approaching, so I stood still, deliberating on whether father would want me to stay while they talked or not

" Good morning officers. I..."

"We are state CIDs from Agodi police station and you are under arrest for slander against Mr and Mrs Obi and trespassing. I would enjoin you to remain silent for anything you say may be used against you in the court of law. Now move!"

Wait! What! Arrest?

"Officer, please hear me out. I'm sure there's a..."

"I said, MOVE!"

I struggled and shouted for them not to take him away but all went on deaf ears. As soon as they left, I ran barefootedly all the way to the market where my mother was to tell her what happened

We left the market with urgency,in disoriented states and got to the police station where we were told we could not see him yet and that we should come the next day.

That night, asides the fact that we couldn't eat, the silence spoke volumes of how scared we were, the sadness that overwhelmed us and the bleak future that laid ahead of us

Suddenly, mum spoke;

"Get up and go and eat. The baby has to feed"

Way to further ruin the already sour mood.

TO HELL WITH THE BABY!!

I think she has a point😁.... There'll be a part 2. Don't touch the dial😉

Please stay safe..
