6|HEALING

Lillian paced back and forth in front of the Scout Regiment Headquarters, inpatient for them to arrive. She had left the other nurses to set up the large Medical Ward while she waited for everyone to arrive. She had heard the Scouts had retreated early meaning something had gone completely wrong, or completely right.

"Levi." The blonde mumbled to herself as she ran forwards, seeing the slight limp in his walk. "Come on."

"I'm fine." He grumbled incoherently, gesturing with his head to the large trailers filled with injured and dead soldiers.

"Oh God." Lillian left the soldiers to inform the nurses and doctors they had arrived back at the Headquarters. "Everyone grab stretchers, first aid kits and let's go!"

The nurses followed after the head doctor and assisted the soldiers into the medical ward. Putting on a clean pair of gloves, Lillian moved on to the next patient, preparing to amputate his leg.

This continued on till every patient was in a safe condition, only losing a small amount of soldiers whose injuries were too serious. The nurses zipped up the finally black body bag and lit a candle in the fallen soldiers name. Passing along all the names of the soldiers in the Medical Ward, Lillian left to go to her office to fill out the paperwork. She jotted down the new medical information for every soldier, stamping some files with red for "discharge" and black for "deceased".

"That's me finished the paperwork." She said to all the nurses and doctors, asking them to pass around the message to the medical team still working with their patients. "I'm going to do another round."

"Yes, Doctor." They saluted the woman and dispersed to get back to work.

"We will be fine here, Doctor Ackerman." A nurse, Anna, walked up to the distracted woman. "You should go rest, you've been on your feet for hours."

"There's still a few patients I need to check on." She sighed, wiping the stray hairs off her forehead with the back of her hand.

"Go." Anna commanded. "I heard your husbands entire squad was wiped out, he needs you."

"What?" Lillian ripped off her gloves and scrubs, running out the room to find her husband. "You!" She stopped a cadet that was walking through the hallways. "Where is Levi?"

"He went straight to his office, ma'am." The cadet informed her, saluting her while she waved good bye.

"Levi?" Lillian ran into his office, finding him sat on his sofa with his eyes closed.

"Tch." He clicked his tongue at the disturbance. "What do you want, brat?"

"I'm here to check on your leg." She stated, kneeling infront of him to check out his leg.

"It's fine." Levi winced as she pressed her fingers into the muscle of his leg.

"Yeah and pigs can fly." The blonde sassed, standing up and putting her hands on her hips. "Take your trousers off."

"What?"

"You heard me." Lillian watched as he slowly removed his trousers, staring at her the entire time with an annoyed look upon his face. "Thank you."

She kneeled back infront of the now seated man and assessed his injury, testing the muscle and slight bruising on the skin.

"You've torn the muscle in your calf and sprained your ankle." She assessed, wrapping a bandage around his ankle to try and give him support.  "You are not allowed to do anything physical for at least a week then I will check up on you to see how the wound is healing."

"I'll be fine." Levi continued to argue, pulling his trousers back on as she sat beside him.

"I'm a doctor and your wife, you will listen to me or I will chop off all nine inches." Lilly glared, pointing to his crouch. With a sigh, she relaxed her shoulders and grabbed his head, forcing him to lean his head on her shoulder. "I'm worried about you. You always keep everything inside."

"I'm worried about you." He let his walls down and let the tears fall, sniffling while Lillian rubbed circles on his back.

"I heard from a nurse about your squad." She wiped away the tears that rolled down her cheeks and stayed silent as she knew he needed time to mourn.

"Thank you."

"Anytime." Lillian heard his breathing slow and knew he had fallen asleep from the exhaustion. She stroked his hair out of his eyes and hummed an old lullaby her mother used to sing.
