"Mate, get up, we're gonna be late for school at this rate!"

I groaned, grabbing my pillow and pulling it into my face.

"Just five more-" I was interrupted as the pillow was ripped out of my hands and thrown onto the floor.

"No! You said that twenty minutes ago!"

Did I? Oh well. May as well make it another twenty.

I rolled over to face the wall, but then I felt something on my leg. Something moving. I jolted up with a scream and jumped right off my bed, pushing the source of the voice over in the process.

"Ow, America! What did you do that for?!"

I ignored him and looked back at my bed to see if that thing had come out yet. Then I saw it.

"Are you kidding me Aussie? A snake?!"

Australia shrugged. "It was the only other option I could think of."

I sighed and got onto my feet. Australia quickly followed and removed his pet from my bed.

"...wait, did you say we're gonna be late for school?"

Australia groaned. "Summer break is over, mate. We're back at school today."

I stared at my brother with a blank face. It was still August, right? Surely... oh wait.

"Fuck."

Australia immediately started laughing. "Did you actually forget?!"

"N-no, I was just joking around!" I replied, crossing my arms and looking away.

"Whatever you say, mate."

-

"Is that everything?" I mumbled to myself, checking the contents of my bag. Usually I wouldn't care, but I didn't want detention on the first day back. "Eh, looks good enough."

I swung open the front door to see Australia chasing Canada with one of his snakes. New Zealand stood in front of the door, a grin on his face. "Finally! I was starting to think one of Aussie's snakes ate you alive!"

"Fuck off," I replied, playfully punching his shoulder as I stepped out of the door. "Aussie, put the snake back in the house. It's not going to school with you!"

"Aw, come on mate, just one day?" Australia looked at me pleadingly, but I wasn't having it.

"No!"

"Fine," he whined, going back inside to put the snake down. He returned a minute later.

"Now is everyone ready?" New Zealand asked impatiently.

"Well if they're not, I'm not waiting," I said, already beginning to walk down the street. Canada quickly caught up, staying to my side.

"Ay, wait up!" Australia called out, grabbing New Zealand's arm and running after us.

"H-hey, let go of me!"
