"Oh, look who's here." A tall boy glanced between the four of us. His eyes rested on Canada. "Wow, I forgot this one even existed!"
My fists clenched as he walked towards my brother, a mean smirk playing on his lips.
"Don't you fucking dare touch my brother," I growled, glaring coldly at China. He didn't move, but his eyes shifted to look at me.
"America..." he muttered, looking me up and down. "One of the most popular boys in our grade, correct?"
I rolled my eyes, knowing he knew the truth. "At your service," I replied sarcastically, adding a dramatic bow just to piss him off even more.
As expected, China's glare hardened. "Well, I suppose I should leave you four alone... for now." He walked away, purposely shoving Canada to the ground on his way. North Korea, who had been quietly standing against the wall the entire time, gave me a quick glare before following China.
I held out my hand to pull my younger brother up. "You alright?"
"Yeah," he replied, grabbing my hand to get up.
"What was that about?" Australia, the youngest of us, asked.
"They never liked me," I answered. "Honestly, I don't care. But I'll fucking kill them if they touch any of you again."
"Aww, you really do care about us!" New Zealand exclaimed, grinning.
I smirked, rolling my eyes. "Of course I-"
I was cut off as a ball of white crashed into me, sending me straight over. "What the- South Korea?!"
The boy looked up at me and grinned. "Hi, Hyung!"
I smiled weakly, even though my whole body hurt after crashing into the floor. "Hey Pepsi."
South Korea pulled an angry face, pretending to be offended. "My flag doesn't look that similar to the Pepsi logo!"
"Whatever you say. Can I get up now?"
"Oh right, sorry!" He quickly got up and pulled me up onto my feet.
"Thanks."
"Anieyo!"
"So, why are you here anyway?" I asked, tilting my head.
"Oh right! I wanted to apologize for how China and my brother were acting. I heard China talking to someone about it!" South Korea looked genuinely sorry, even though he hadn't done anything.
"Hey it's alright, you don't have to apologize. You weren't even there!"
"But-" I patted him on the head, causing him to grin.
"Now, shouldn't you be getting to class?"
He looked up at the clock. "Oh, yeah! Bye Hyung!" The boy walked a few steps down the corridor before turning to wave. I waved back, smiling. I had never been in the same class as him, but he was close friends with Japan so I knew him quite well.
I heard a sudden cough behind me. I turned to see Canada standing there, awkwardly.
"Oh, sorry Canada! Where did the other two go?"
"They went to class," he replied quietly. I sighed, knowing he was anxious.
"Come meet me at break okay? Same place as always." He nodded, and I gave him a quick hug before we had to part. Sadly, none of us shared classes as we were all in different grades.
-
"Guess who's back!" I shouted as I slammed the door open. Most of the class started to laugh, but I noticed two who didn't. One was North Korea, but I had never seen the other before. He must have been in a different class last year.
"Welcome back, America," the teacher said, sounding slightly annoyed. I smirked.
"Thank you, Miss. So anyway, where am I sitting?" I glanced around the room, but didn't see a free seat.
"Well since you decided to show up late, there are no seats left."
I looked at her strangely. Surely there would be enough seats for a full class?
"Oh well, I'll just sit on the floor!" I commented, earning another round of laughs from the class. I was about to actually do it, when I heard a voice from the back of the class.
"Miss EU, there is a free seat by Russia!" The teacher looked over somewhere in the classroom.
Russia... have I heard that name before?
"Oh, so there is. You can sit there, America." She pointed to the free seat, and I finally noticed it.
Wait... I thought. Russia is the boy who didn't laugh...
I blinked a few times and snapped back into reality. "Fair enough," I said, making my way to my new seat. I swung my bag under my desk and sat down. I was expecting the boy next to me to speak, but he said nothing.
"...so your name is Russia?"
The boy looked at me, and I finally got a good look at him.
White, blue, red.
I wondered if I had seen those colours before. Well, of course I had, they were my own colours! But I had never seen them in that order before. I still felt like I recognised him somewhere though...
"What are you looking at?" Russia asked in a cold tone. Then I realized I had been staring at him the whole time. I choked up and looked down at my desk.
"N-nothing!"
Russia turned back to the front of the room, propping his head up with one arm.
Not very friendly, I see. But I can work with this.
"So, how long you been at this school for?" I asked, hoping for a response. None. "...hello? Anyone home?"
He glanced sideways at me, giving me a weird look.
"There, eye contact! That's a good start. You gonna speak now?"
Russia looked back towards the teacher. I sank down into my chair, defeated.
This is going to be one boring-ass year.
