He has a reputation of always getting his man or his woman, in Emma's case, every time. Beau is tall and handsome and hot as sin. He is a take charge kind of man that doesn't do love and romance though a good roll in the hay now and then has always been enough. He is now finding out that the love of a good woman is everything to him and keeping her safe is his main concern, when danger comes for her in the form of a census man named Nathan Berg.
Berg, who will stop at nothing to get what he wants and he wants Emma any way he can have her.
Emma Scott is a teacher who grew up in Gum Creek with Abel and Adeline and now she and Adeline share a school house.
Emma is a very beautiful young woman who is very innocent and wants love, romance and children someday with the right man. She falls head over heels for the one man in town that says he doesn't do love, and she is out to change his mind on the matter.
Abel Thomas, the lawman of Gum Creek. Only has eyes for Emma, the young woman he grew up with. Though, Emma thinks of Abel more as a brother than husband material. Abel finds true love in the one place he never bothered to look and that's with Adeline Norton, that's if he hasn't lost his chance.
Adeline Norton, the one that teaches alongside Emma, has had a crush on Abel since childhood, but Able never seemed to notice her. Can Adeline make Abel take notice of her and her love for him?
Nathan Berg is a sneaky underhanded excuse for a man with violent and stalking ways about him. He's got his sights set on the beautiful Emma Scott, and will stop at nothing until he has her. He looks at it as if he can't have her no one can. Nathan will not take no for an answer and she will come to him willing or he will take everything she has and everyone she loves just to have her to himself.
Elizabeth Layne lives above the bar at the saloon with her 10 painted ladies that are always willing if you have the money. Elizabeth is a lady and not a whore and she would kill you dead right where you stand if you call her one. She is a strong woman and not a dapper lady, but a lady none the less. She wears brightly ruffled skirts that are short in the front and down to her boots in the back with bright petticoats and lots of make- up with big hair.
Edward Shaw owns the saloon in Gum Creek, with a wide boardwalk, flanking dusty streets and hitching posts out front to tie your horse. This is the only place to get a beer or whiskey or even the Indian firewater/rotgut.
Edward has the bar made out of mahogany that is always polished to a splendid shine with a gleaming brass foot rail. He even has a nude picture of a lady that hangs over the bar to give it that edgy look. Edward lives above the bar to keep an eye on the saloon.
