"JUST BREATHE ATHENA," her best friend, Gabriella said as they arrived for Athena's very first rehearsal for newsies on tour. Nervous wasn't the right way to describe how Athena was feeling, it was more like terrified. Her palms were clammy, as her heart was beating rapidly inside her chest. Her legs felt as if they were jello and she'd fall at any given moment."Maybe this is a bad idea," She admitted. "I shouldn't have accepted the role. There were hundreds of girls at auditions who were without a doubt more talented than me. They deserve this opportunity, not me."
Athena turned walk away from the building but before she could take a step, Gabriella quickly yanked my arm, pulling her back to face the entrance doors of the building.
"Stop selling yourself short," Gabriella said, not allowing her to pull away for her grip, no matter how hard she tried. "You're sixteen years old and you were cast in the North American national tour of Newsies. You are one of the most talented dancers I've ever seen and are incredibly hardworking. You're too paranoid, just believe in yourself. You deserve this."
"You're right. I'm going to go in there and kill it" Athena said, although she managed to make it sound more like a question than a statement.
"Yes you are," she said, pushing her friend through the entrance door. "Now go in there, kick butt and when it's over, you can tell me all about it."
"So you'll be there for me, right?" Athena asked.
Gabriella looked at her as if she were possibly the most stupid person on the planet. "When am I not there for you? Plus, your dad invited Knox and I over for dinner so you can talk our ears off about how amazing it was all at once. And tell me about all the cute boys."
"Okay," She sighed. "Wish me luck."
"You don't need it," Gabriella assured her as she once again pushed her to walk ahead, standing as a barricade between the doors so she wouldn't try to make a run for it.
With all the courage Athena had, she walked through the building and into the rehearsal space. She gripped tightly onto my bag she which held her script. She couldn't hero but wonder, if she was this terrified to do the read through, how bad would she be on opening night?
Stop stressing, Athena. You can do this, She told herself.
Athena took a deep breath, pacing herself and walked through the door. The room was full of people. They all had big smiles plastered on their face, which for some reason, made her more nervous. What if they all would secretly hate her?
"Athena!" She heard someone call, turning around to see their director, Jeff standing there.
"Hi Mr Jeff," smiled. "It's so nice to see a familiar face."
"Mr?" He laughed, as he pulled her into a tight hug. "Don't make me feel so old. Just call me Jeff. You haven't had a chance to meet any of your cast mates, yet?"
