The voices went down through the hall like cars passing by, surprising after everything that you could focus on something. You had no idea where everyone else was, but you knew they were nearby, probably already being put on the spot, trying not to fall for their tricks. The pitcher of water sat at the center with a plate of pastries next to it, but you knew better. You sat up and tried to not touch so much of the cold steel chair as your arms rested on the table.

The door opened and in came agent Smith*, wearing the dress code. Black suit, white shirt, black tie, tall, a little more than skinny but not bulked and a manila folder in hand, probably hasn't been here a full year yet but knows the procedure.

"Sorry to keep you waiting, Dr. (L/N). I'm sure you're busy and we'll get you out of here ASAP. Do you need anything before we start? Water? Soda? Beer?" He questioned with a laugh but carried on as he sat down. "Now, what can you tell me about the personal conflict between Commander Gabriel Reyes and Strike Commander John F. Morrison?"

One year ago

It was a new year and this time you added a new resolution to the list. Luckily Ana knew how to help you with it as you moved your arms and legs on the mat of the training room. It wasn't in the open like a gym, it was a good sized room that was used to train recruits on hand-to-hand combat. Sweat dripped from your brow and arms as you kicked the air. Your foot returned to the ground and you stood to catch your breath.

"How was that?" You said to Ana, who was on the side keeping an eye on you.

"You're improving, let's say that."

"Fair." You said as she walked towards you.

"Show me your starting stance."

You put your dominate leg forward with the other in the back, dominate arm up in a block form and your other arm somewhat cocked back in a fist, ready to deliver a hit. Ana patted your lower back to straighten up and got you to properly place your fingers so that you wouldn't break them on your first punch. "Now, how do you feel?"

"Ready." You said but in a flash, Ana swept your legs off from the floor, your body hit the ground and she put her her left arm on your chest to keep you down and her right arm ready to strike. "Or not." You said in a wheezy voice after getting the wind knocked out of you. Ana offered a hand and got you back up, "I think that is enough for today. Wash up and pack up, let's get you back to your quarters."

"Yes, ma'am." You said with a salute. Packing up your gear, placing a cooling towel around your neck and wiping your face, Ana walked with you back to your quarters.

"Thanks again for helping me with this, Ana."

"Of Course and remember, this is between us and it is only for defense." She told you. You asked for her help in teaching you something that you could use to defend yourself physically and refrain from getting a dislocated arm again.  Ana had black belts in Judo and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, you didn't need to become Bruce Lee but you wanted to at least stand a chance against someone. "Besides, it takes me back to when I was teaching Fareeha how to fight. I was so proud of her, especially for how young she was. She was a very fast learner."

As you walked, down the hall there were some loud voices bleeding through the doors of Jack's office. "Keep them in line, Gabe." Morrison said stern and firm. "Sure, Jack. Whatever you say. Just stay out of my damn way." He said under his breath as he walked down the corridor away from you and Ana. She sighed with a heavy heart and you walked on. Ana delivered you to your room and you opened the door, "You don't have to walk me to my room every night, Ana."

"Oh, it's no trouble for me. Besides, I enjoy our talks." She replied, but as you were about to say good night, Ana spoke up. "I apologize that you had to see that between Morrison and Reyes."
