'Five Years Previously...'
'The name Desert Hollow doesn't make sense if you think about it. At the very least not the Desert part.'
'Sure, the area around us was, without a doubt, desertish in every way; what with all the sand dunes and spaces of land without water. And when summer comes around the wisest people would stay indoors with AC on full blast when high noon struck.'
'But even so, we still had the most water (nasty as it was) in the valley, and the farmers were still able to grow six feet tall corn stalks, alfalfa, and pumpkin patches every year. Not to mention we lived in the only place where trees grew for miles (aside from my house of course). And no matter how hot it gets in the summer, the cold in the winter would give the summer temperatures a run for their money.'
'Personally I think 'Windy Hallow' would have made more sense, because no matter the weather in sleet, snow, hail, rain, or drought, it never took a breath.'
'The town wasn't too big, but it certainly made many changes over time. Stores and establishments came and went, however the strongest established buildings stayed in business.'
'The recreations were my favorite part of Desert Hallow, the swimming pool on the north side of town down by the Desert Rabbit High School, was a fun summer past time. The bowling alley, and right next to it, the Twin Theaters were always fun to visit every so often. The roller skating rink as well, I didn't actually like right away but it did eventually grow on me.'
'It was the last day of school, and a day spent playing games and watching a movie. The first grade almost over, and I was ready for my first summer vacation to begin.'
'The bell rang for the last time, I knew that the hour had come to go home, but before I left I said good bye to my teacher Mrs. Fowels. Then I dashed to go wait at the stop sign, that I had stood by stubbornly, everyday for the past few months and waited for someone to pick me up.'
("There they are! Right on time.")
'I thought as I headed toward the tanish-gold mini van. I slide open the door and I see that everyone was there and accounted for: My dad was up front driving with my mother beside him, Lorance was in the back-back strapped in his car seat, Brittney sat next to him smiling like crazy and entertaining Lorance with a book, Audrey was seated by the window in the the second row to the very back ( I wonder if she fought Brittney for it) and then Stacy was there in front of me when I open the door smiling like always.'
'I climb over Stacy so I can get in my designated seat in the middle. (That was determined by my senior siblings)'
"Hello Macy how was you day?" Asked my Mom with her sunny smile.
"Good." Was my quite reply.
"Just Good?" Asked my dad who made a left turn onto the road home.
"Hey, at least she's consistent." Stacy Said.
"Oh? Then how was you day then Stacy." May dad asked.
"Super boring. And tell me something. What kind of teacher's assign's homework on the last day of school?" He said.
"A Good One." took up half of the car votes while the other half said "A boring one." simultaneously. The car burst in momentary laughter before Dad moved on.
"How about you Audrey."
"It was fine." Audrey said.
"Just Fine?" Asked Dad.
"Yep." She said.
"As in the I'm-okay-fine or the I'm-not-okay-fine." Dad asked.
"I'm just fine!" Audrey said exasperatedly.
