Today was miserable. Not only was I in a bad mood but so was the sky.
Clouds blanketed the sky, locking together like a complex grey puzzle and blocked out any hope of sunshine. They melted into the choppy waters making the horizon seem invisible. The sky couldn't seem to decide if it was going to rain or not.
I scowled at the sky before turning away to look back at Ceto.
The siren lay in the damp sand looking up at tree branches, "So..." He started.
I raised a eyebrow. "So?"
"We kissed"
My breath caught in my throat causing me to choke slightly. I wasn't expecting him to be so forward.
He looked at me like he was waiting for a response.
"We did" I said and looked down at my scarred hands.
Did I love him?
I had already gone through some much, this whole tramatic situation. My thoughts had mainly been on surviving but in the back of my mind I knew that deep down I did have feelings for him. The first time I noticed I had tried to push it down and blame it on stress and telling myself 'your just being delusional'. Yet here i was sat talking to the person I loved.Ceto nodded briefly. He looked like he was going to say something but didn't. He just glanced to the ocean and back down at the sand.
"Do you have feelings for me?" I half mumbled the sentence but I knew he heard me.
"Yes" he said without hesitation.
My heart leapt and my breath caught. "But..." He continuedThere's always a 'but'.
The siren sighed and tipped his head upwards. "I-i just feel like..." he winced as if it caused him physical pain "...Like I'm betraying him..." He cut himself off.
There it was. The reason why he had backed down and stepped away every time. He couldn't get over Sorin- the one person he loved most in the world. Sorin- a dead man that I envied because he had the heart of the siren I liked.
Ceto looked to see my reaction. His eyes were heart broken and lost. His expression reminded me of my brother. The one person I couldn't get over as well.
I guess we we're both broken.
"I know, It's ok" I forced a smile. As much as I wanted it to be the truth deep down I knew it was still a lie.
I watched Ceto's webbed fingers as he dragged them through the sand. The lines zigzagged and twirled.
I didn't have the guts to say how I felt, he clearly wasn't feeling the same.
Dragging my gaze from the artwork I looked across the grey ocean. Through the foggy clouds I could make a silhouette of a ship.
A ship.My gaze remained fixed on the shop as if in a trance, "Ceto" I murmured.
He let out a quizzical hum and looked up at me.
I pointed toward the vessel on the water. "Ceto look"
I stood up quickly and looked around for anything I could use to get their attention."Holy gods" he muttered and dragged himself towards the shallows as if in a trance.
I added more fuel to the fire until the flames were as high as my chest. "Wait where are you going?" I asked the siren.
Ceto pointed to the ship.
I let out a sigh, "you're gonna swim up to them and ask them to take me home?" I rubbed the bridge of my nose between my thumb and index finger.
He flashed me a smile and gripped Trishul, "That exactly what I'm going to do"
A million possiblities of what could happen to him ran through my head. "Wait no-", before I could finish he slipped under the waves. He really had no idea about humans did he?
Ceto's head popped up about halfway way to the boat. He tilted his head and furrowed his brows like he does when he's confused about something. "What?" He cried. Even though he was far away his voice was still loud.
I motioned for him to come back.
He frowned and sunk back into the water, only to emerge again by the shore. "What?" He repeated.
I lowered myself so I was at his level. "You can't just wander up to them" I sighed. "Gods know what they'll do."
He took my words into consideration and let out a defeated huff.
"Try stay hidden" I added before turning my attention back to the ship.
The mighty sails of the ship were held taunt as they carried the ship through the waves. A second ship appeared behind it.
I let out an audible curse.
Now that the first ship was closer I could clearly see the emblem. A golden winged wolf. A faded red strip down was painted down the hull.
Ceto raised an eyebrow.
"T-there's only one country that wears those colours on our continent.". I pointed to the ship as they began to lower a row boat. "That's an Alezo ship… w-which means it's an enemy ship." I explained.
At least I was getting off this island… but I was going right into the enemies hands
