I let out a string of curses as I tried to pull out the splinter in my finger.

Ceto let out a chuckle, "Are you alright there?" He asked from where he lay in the sand.

"it's just a splinter" I mumbled and sucked on my bleeding finger.

The siren tilted his head and tried to make sense of the mess in front of us. But ceto just furrowed his brows, "What are you making?"

"a raft" I said proudly. Looking down at my work. I had neatly arranged sticks to create a square big enough for me to lay on.

Ceto frowned, "That's not a raft" he pointed out.

I glared at him, "Yes it is" I hissed and went back to fixing the rope. The raft had a small sail that mocked one of the navy ships sails.

He shook his head with a chuckle and rolled over to bask in the warm sun.

I dragged the raft through the sand, past Ceto, to where the waves hit the shore.

The siren opened one eye and peered at me. "I'm not coming to save you if it sinks" he stated with a chuckle.

I ignored his comment and focused my attention on the raft before me. I checked it over before dragging it out further into the water.
Once the waves lapped at my chest I climbed on.

The raft shook but held together.
I let out a sigh and smiled. At least it's floating.

"Good luck, you're going to need it" Ceto cried from the shore. I shot a look at him but he just laughed it off.

I unfurled the mockery of a sail. It caught the wind and snapped open. I grabbed a paddle-shaped stick.
Slowly and painfully the raft dragged itself through the water.
I smiled, it was actually working.

A large wave hit the port side causing one of the logs to come loose from the ropes. Clumsily, I tried to keep the raft together.

I wasn't paying attention to the wind direction though.

The boom (part of a sail) swung toward me but I couldn't move in time and the boat capsized

The water was cool. Below the surface you could only hear the waves brushing over the surface.

Through stinging eyes I could make out the sea floor.

I desperately tried to untangle my foot from the mess of ropes. currently I was hanging upside-down like a dead carcass in the butcher's store.

I sent a pray to the gods that Ceto would come help me.

The golden sun warmed my scales. I let out a sigh and rested my hands behind my head.
Today was perfect. The was barely any clouds, the sun was out and a gentle breeze brushed across the water.

I chuckled gently when I heard a splash. Did he seriously think that could take him across the ocean?
The world went back to it's peaceful silence.
Too quiet.

I cracked opened an eye to see where James was. I only saw his 'raft' flipped over in the water.
I waited for him to resurface but he didn't.

I let out a curse, grabbed my trident and made my way into the waves.

James's foot was tangled in the vine- or-ropes of the raft. His body was limply hang from the boats.

I let out a curse and quickly swam over to him.

The sailor's face was so calm. His piercing blue eyes were hidden behind closed lids. His Auburn hair swayed with the tide like fire; making his freckles look like embers.

I glanced down at my clawed fingers. With one swipe I cut him free from the ropes.

James stirred, he softly tried to push me away as I wrapped my arms around him.

I hissed, "Idiot I'm trying to help you" the phrase sending bubbles flying.

The sailor's panicked blue eyes fixed on mine for a moment; he saw it was me and went limp in my arms again. he rested his head against my shoulder.

I shook my head and adjust James so I could hold his body against my side with one hand. A heart beat later I was swimming through the water as fast as my body would let me.

I couldn't breathe.
I panicked and tried to cough up the water that had invaded my lungs. My throat- everything burned as it came back up.

I clutched my side as my insides threatened to join the sea water on the floor.

Ceto looked at me with concern but didn't say anything.

I smiled weakly and rolled into my back. "I owe you twice now" I joked.

The siren shook his head, "You don't owe me anything" he mumbled, a slight red tint kissed his cheeks.

Once I was sure the only thing in my lungs was air I turned to him, "Thank you... Again" I awkwardly said.

The siren shrugged off my words. "Just please don't try that again.". I could of sworn he half chuckled the words.

I smiled weakly and led down onto the sand close to him, "No promises"
