- Chapter Six -
"I think I'm needed home.""THIS HERE'S A JAM FOR ALL THE FELLAS, TRYIN TO DO WHAT THOSE LADIES TELL US, GET SHOT DOWN CAUSE YOU'RE OVERZEALOUS, PLAY HARD TO GET FEMALES GET JEALOUS..."
"Okay, smarty, go to a party, girls are scantily clad and showing body." Amanda Bowers sat by the rocks above the Quarry, separated from everybody else. Her clothes were still damp yet she didn't take Beverly Marsh's approach of sunbathing in front of 5 strange boys. Instead she had taken herself away from the group, let her legs dangle over the edge of the cliff and reflected on what she had done.
On a whim, she had put herself out there and threw herself off of a mountain into freezing cold water with a bunch of people she didn't like. And people that didn't like her. For an hour, she had swam with boys and girls in their underwear, not saying much and dealing with some awkward glances from them. They had found it odd she had jumped in her everyday clothes, Amanda found it odd that all the boys were wearing tighty whities.
All of them had something wrong with each other and in Amanda's reflection, she verbally abused herself for even thinking about hanging out with them. Let alone actually doing it. Zach Denbrough and Richie Tozier had gotten in her head, saying how Bill classed her as a friend and hearing Richie call her a pussy. She wasn't a pussy, she knew she was much braver than any of them around her.
Maybe in a different ways; Beverly was splayed out half-naked in front of 4 teenage boys, not scared of being exposed. Amanda was guarded, lonely, not scared of what people think of her. She knows everybody has her own things and fears, but throughout the years she had built up a precious armour that would take a while to tear down. It was no going to come down that day at the Quarry, listening to Young MC.
She was waiting for the right time to pack up and leave, but to get back to her bike she had to pass the six of them instead of just disappearing into thin air. So she would wait for the first person to leave and simply follow after them silently. For now, she just let her legs dangle, swinging them backwards and forwards whilst she mumbled Bust a Move.
"A chick walks by you wish you could sex her, but you're standin' on the wall like you was Poindexter." Amanda began to draw patterns in the Quarry dust she was sat on, her initials being marked into the ground. She felt the dust on her thighs but just decided to ignore it because it was better than being sat with everyone else. "Next day's function, high class luncheon, food is served-"
"Bowers, you know Young MC?" A male voice said from where the five boys had supposedly finished gawking over Beverly. It made Amanda freeze slightly, jerking her head around to face them all, seeing everyone staring back at her including Beverly who had sat up from her sunbathing.
Amanda shrugged at Richie's question, nodding her head slightly before turning away again and looking back up at the water. A bright, clear, beautiful blue lake that stretched for a mile and made Amanda slightly nauseous about what could be hiding in the deeper parts of the water. Ever since Jaws, she had been scared of deep water. The Quarry activities they took part in took place in the shallow end, so that didn't really bother her.
