- Chapter Thirteen -
"ROCK WAR!!!!""IS IT TOO LATE TO TURN BACK?"
Halfway through their journey through the small forest, Amanda was already overcome with an incredible anxiety that made her regret ever getting off her bike and following the group into the woods in the first place.
Belch's car had lurked ominously as they passed it, reminding the girl of what exactly lay further into the woods for them; a bunch of bullies whose consequences Amanda would be on the receiving end of.
Thin branches and even thinner leaves smacked against the faces of the two teenagers whilst they ran through the forest attempting to catch up with the others as quick as they could, there wasn't too much of a distance between them but Amanda's nerve made it seem like longer.
The running was causing a strong heat to build up in between her arms and the material of her jacket, overheating her greatly.
"We're already here." Stanley told her shortly, pushing his way through a bush to reveal the others stood near the bank of a river.
The water almost matched the beading sweat on Amanda's hairline - she wore her hair down in a continuing attempt to hide the cut on her forehead but all the loser's knew anyway.
Just as Amanda pushed her own way through the bush, side-by-side with Stanley, the only thing she saw was a large rock being hurled across the river towards another group of people. At the sight of it, the two teenagers still in the forest rushed forward to meet Bill, Eddie, Richie, Ben and Beverly by the river side.
There they had a view of what transpired on the other side of the river.
Mike Hanlon, the home-schooled kid, lay sprawled on the floor with his back against the rocks below him. Henry, Amanda's brother, was lay beside him though much more disgruntled and bleeding from a gash on his forehead, similar to hers but on the other side of the cranium.
Victor Criss and Belch Huggins stood beside the two boys on the floor, eyes wide and mouths agape as they looked up at Beverly.
For Beverly had been the one to toss the rock at Henry and supposedly knock him off of the top of Mike. All screams had silenced and Amanda met Victor's eyes from across the river bank, his own eyes going from the cuts on her head to Henry who was grumbling to himself on the rocky bank.
If she tried, she could stay hidden at the back and Henry wouldn't see her although that was by a long shot since the others were spread out enough so that everybody could be seen.
"Nice throw." Stanley complimented Beverly upon their arrival and the redhead turned to him, sparing a small smile of gratitude whilst the water in the river sloshed in disturbance, making Amanda look slightly past Bill's shoulder.
Mike was crawling their way towards them as fast as he could, hands scraping across the gravel and stone as he launched himself into the river, chasing the safety that they provided away from the bullies.
