The Vanishing of
Will ByersCorey Lang sat on the couch in the basement of the Wheeler residents. She was in the presence of Dustin Henderson, Lucas Sinclair, Mike Wheeler, and Will Byers. They were immersed in a game of Dungeons and Dragons.
The boys were arguing over what choice Will would make; Cast protection of fireball. With the adrenaline of all the boys in the room flowing, Will chose fireball. He rolled he diced with force, all of them following off the table.
"Mike!" Karen Wheeler, Mike's mother called as she opened the basement door. The boys didn't even hear as they were busy trying to find the dice that were scattered on the floor.
"Mike!"
"Mike!"
When Mike finally heard his mom he stopped the search. "Mom, we're in the middle of a campaign!" He yelled.
"You mean the end?" His mother corrected. "Fifteen after".
Corey got up to help the boys find the dice as Mike followed his mom upstairs. 'You guys were so into the game you lost the dice".
"You would understand if you played. We couldn't let the Demogorgon get us" Dustin said as he looked under a pile of clothes.
"Oh, I got it!" Will announced and the other two boys went to him. "Does the seven-count?".
"It was seven?" Lucas questioned. "Did Mike see it?".
Will shook his head.
"Then it doesn't count".
Corey followed the boys up the stairs once they were ready to go, "Mrs.Wheeler, I'm heading out". Mrs.Wheeler approached the girl who was about to leave, "Thank you for coming over. You're always a pleasure to have here".
Corey gave her a smile before exiting the house. She walked to her a car, a blue AMC Concord, and entered it. She waited a few minutes, for no specific reason, before she started her engine and headed home.
When the morning came, Corey was woken by her alarm clock. Although the girl liked attending school, she hated to wake up early. The girl dressed in simple blue jeans and a blue sweater and let her loose, brown curls fall into place.
When she deemed herself ready she headed downstairs where she saw breakfast on the table; Eggs and waffles. The girl helped herself to the food. She knew her mom probably already left for work so she was home alone. The breakfast was good, but she didn't have the time to savor the taste as she needed to get to school. She took one more waffle before gathering her stuff and shuffling out the house.
Upon arrival at Hawkins High, Corey spent a few minutes in her car to briefly go over her notes. She had a test in a few days so she wanted to be prepared. She knew she had to study hard if she wanted to pass. Corey wasn't stupid, definitely not that, but she also wasn't the smartest person.
She was completely focused. Well, until there was a knock on her window. The girl peeled her eyes away from her notes and looked to see who could be bothering her. She looked out the window, meeting eyes with Steve.
Corey rolled down the window with a smile, "How may I help you, Harrington?".
Steve leaned against the door of the car, "Can't I just want to see my best friend?".
Corey rolled her eyes playfully, "As if. Shouldn't you be with your girlfriend?".
Steve knew she meant Nancy Wheeler. Though they weren't official, Steve knows that Corey knows how much Nancy means to him. "She's not my girlfriend, and she's not at school yet".
