Chapter 2: Bail Me Out
-Cassie-
A piece of his dark brown, spikey hair fell over his crystal green eyes. He didn't have the kind of spikes that a nine year old has, he had spikey/ messy hair that swept to the left up front. I guess I have always had a small crush on Gabriel, we have gone to the same school since I was in 2nd grade and he was in 3rd. He never noticed me though, seeing as he was a grade higher than me. Sadly I left in the end of 9th grade when I moved far far away. But I came back this year. When I was little, I used to be so loud and outgoing. I was always in trouble in class for being a smart alec or being too loud or for never listening. I was always the strange girl that everybody loved, that is up until the 9th grade, when I met David Crane; the guy ruined my life in more ways than one. I went from the fun playful girl to the shy girl who sticks to the shadows and is afraid of people. But the last part is all on my mother.
Gabriel came over to me.
"Are you ok?" The roughness of his voice startled me. I stood quickly, and faced him. He looked down into my eyes. "Cassie?" He knows my name? How does he know my name? I have literally NEVER even said hi to the guy, I have even made sure NOT to go near him in the halls, whenever he decides to go to class. Wait he knows my name, this is bad. This is very very bad! I thought just before acting in the only
way I know how. I ran. My eyes scanned the alley in an attempt to flee. But I was trapped in a dead end. My finger tips scraped against the bricks. I have an idea. In less than a second I was able to spin around and begin to scale the wall with ease. I flung my legs over the top and ran, faster and faster and faster. My feet carried me for miles without me noticing. I love to run and I was good at it. I would close my eyes and suddenly I could feel everything. That's how I ran, with my eyes closed. The feeling of flying washed over me. The faster I ran the more I forgot, so I ran full speed. I don't want to remember, not now, not ever. I just wanted to forget, forget everything. When my lungs couldn't take it anymore I stopped and buckled over gasping for air.
I looked around. All I saw were trees and trees and more trees. Some girls at my school would have been completely lost. But I was a bouncy kid who couldn't sit still so I wandered. Sometimes I ended up in these woods. I was in my own personal play ground. I swung around trees and danced over logs. I leaped in the air and hopped in trees. I was currently sitting on the highest peak in the tallest tree. It over looked the entire city. The lights twinkled and shined in my eyes. I inhaled the fresh air. I could smell the wet leaves, the city, the dirt, I could smell the sunshine! It was magnificent!
"Boo!" a deep voice whispered in my ear. I squealed on the top of my lungs as bulky fingers jabbed and tickled my sides. My feet slipped out from under me and I fell a few branches down before I grabbed a sturdy looking one. He was dangling above me, holding on by only his knees. He stretched down and helped me back to my original spot. A smile engulfed my face when I saw his beaming brown eyes.
"Mickey!" I whined. His name was Michael but when he was younger he was obsessed with Mickey Mouse so I called him Mickey.
"You ok?" he smirked at me. I shoved his shoulder.
"Tag!" I whispered changing the subject and jumped from one branch to another until my feet hit the solid ground. He landed behind me. I peered over my shoulder and saw him coming at me. He knew this forest almost as well as I did, we would play here for hours at a time. Hey, we still do! I stumbled over a rock before going full speed ahead. We zig-zagged through trees and vines. I ducked and jumped over obstacles. Mickey was really fast but didn't take track for 3 years unlike me!
"TAG!" He shouted shoving me forwards.
"YOU. SUCK!" I huffed between breaths.
"Come and get me." He taunted before scurrying away. We went back and forth pushing each other every time we tagged for quite some time before he held his hands together in a T.
