After leaving the art studio, Nath and I headed over to my house as promised. I was slightly nervous at what he would think of my paintings because he, himself, is an amazing artist.

Once we arrived at my house, I gently opened the door and peered inside. I couldn't hear any noise so I assumed my dad and step mom were at work.

"Come in" I said, leaving the door open. Nathaniel followed me inside and glanced around the small living room and kitchen, which were both on the ground floor. His eyes sparkled in thought and he turned to me.

"Nice place" he commented, examining the room once more, "it has a nice atmosphere."

I smiled brightly. "Thanks, but the paintings are in my room, so if you would follow me, Monsieur Kurtzberg" I teased. Nathaniel grinned at me but followed behind nonetheless.

We soon arrived at my room up in the attic. The window was wide open and a gentle breeze was blowing back the white curtains. A single beam of sunlight shone onto the wooden floor, creating an interesting pattern in it's wake.

I walked up the one of the large closets and opened up the doors. There were no shelves inside, only a large space. Some of my art hung on the walls and on the backside of the double doors, but majority were splayed all over the floor. Nathaniel gasped and walked up behind me to peer over at my work.

"Wow, these... these are incredible Y/N! You truly are talented!" he exclaimed with wide excited eyes. I blushed slightly but a small smile made it's way onto my face.

"Thanks Nath" I chuckled, "that's really nice of you."

"I mean it Y/N" he spoke, turning to face me with a serious look on his face, "you should be more confident in your skills, these are fantastic."

My face lit up at the compliment but suddenly fell once I remembered something that was said to me before.

"Most people I've shown my art to didn't think so" I mumbled, turning away briefly. Nathaniel's eyes widened and he stared at me incredulously.

"Who on earth wouldn't appreciate this?" he asked rhetorically, mentioning to my paintings as he did so. I gulped before turning back to face him with hurtful eyes.

"The students at my old school" I muttered, casting my gaze at the floor "they made fun of me and one of the people I trusted most ended up destroying one of my best works."

I heard Nathaniel let out an angry breath and I momentarily panicked, thinking that he was mad at me. However, I was surprised when two firm arms wrapped around me and pulled me into a warm chest. I felt Nathaniel place his head on top of mine and his arms tighten his hold on me.

"Well, they must have been blind because you are an incredible painter. Most people just don't understand art" he huffed with annoyance.

I was slightly surprised because I have never seen this side of Nath before, but soon I relaxed in his arms and hugged him back tightly. I heard him intake a sharp breath.

"That means a lot. Thank you."

Nathaniel seemed to relax and we shared a moment just standing in the comfort of each other's embrace. My heart was beating slightly faster and a warm feeling spread in my stomach the longer we stood there.

I smiled into the crook of Nathaniel's neck. For the first time in what seemed like forever, I felt like I was truly understood.
