                                                                    "Summer Starts"

It had been four days since graduation. Summer had started and we were having the time of our lives. I tried not to count the days but I did anyway. Every day that I had to put an ‘X’ on the calendar I felt a pang in my chest. I was scared that the days seemed to be going so fast.

At least Nathan seemed to be happy. He had promised me no more fights and we hadn’t fought yet. He always seemed up beat and had a smile on his face. I didn’t know if he was doing it for me or he was genuinely happy but I didn’t care. At least we were having a good time together.

“Hey girl,” Sophie said as she busted in my door.

“Hi,” I said with a grin as I sat up.

            “Get dressed,” she said.

            “Why,” I asked confused.

“The boardwalk is finally open and everyone’s going,” she said as she went over to my closet to get me an outfit out.

            “Who is everyone,” I asked.

“Me, you, Nathan, K.J., Justin, James and Chris,” she said.

“Speaking of Chris. Have you heard from him,” I asked.

            “I just talked to him.”

“Why wasn’t he at prom or graduation,” I asked.

            “He couldn’t,” she said sadly.

            “Why,” I asked.

“You know why,” she said as she threw my clothes at me.

“How bad was it,” I asked as I felt my face harden.

“He beat him to wear he couldn’t show his face,” she said.

“I want to kill that fucker,” I said furiously.

“You aren’t the only one. We just have to remember that he only has three months left there,” she told me.

“Yeah but he could kill him before that,” I said as I stood up.

“I can’t think that way or I’ll break down,” Sophie said with tears in her eyes.

“He doesn’t deserve it,” I said.

“No but bad things happen,” she said.

“Horrible things happen,” I corrected as I got dressed.

“You’re right,” she said with a sigh.

“I was thinking about asking mom if he could stay here for the rest of the summer,” I said.

“That would be amazing,” Sophie said as she jumped up off of the bed.
