Valravn comes from Danish folklore. "Raven of the slain".

When royalty- or a chieftain- dies on a battlefield and is not buried, the ravens that feed on the corpse become Valravn or Valravne. The raven that feeds off the blood from the heart will gain human intelligence and the ability to commit horrendous acts. They are usually described as raven-like creatures, but some have wolf attributes.

Valravn can be cured and become knights, but only after they feed on the heart blood of a child. In one story, a Valravn makes a deal with a woman to take her to her true love... in exchange for her first born child. The deal was accepted and completed. The Valravn ate the woman's first born child after leading it into the woods, and then transformed into knight.

(See the Valravn Wikipedia page for more detailed information, but this is the majority of it since it's a short page)
