Chapter 6

Where am I?

I shifted in the nest I was in and looked around. I was in the medicine den. Some cat was snoring outside. I got up to feel the sharp pain in my back. It wasn't pleasant, but I rubbed it off. When I pushed my way out of the den. Briarbush was sleeping in front of it. I jumped over her and landed face first on the other side. My back was in pain. I stood and walked off. The clan was staring at me weirdly. They had shocked faces. I ignored it. Though it was worrying.
I finally made it to the place I needed to go in.

The leaders den

I stopped to hear what was going on. Diamondstar was reasoning with firepelt.
"Come on firepelt." She mewed. "She'll get better. Just don't stay here being all sad. We need you." There was worry in her mew. I gathered up the courage to ask.
"C-can I come in?" I asked in a shakey voice.
They were silent for a moment. Diamondstar answered.
"Yes..."
I pushed my way through the moss. Firepelt looked exhausted! He looked like he'd been haunted by something. His ears were flickering left and right. And his fur was matted. Diamondstar walked up to me. She flicked her tail towards firepelt. I knew what she wanted me to do.
   "Firepelt?" I called.
   He lifted his head. His eyes were dull and the fur around his eyes were dark. He opened his eyes wide when he saw me.
   "F-falconkit!"
   He jumped up and licked my ear. It was a little awkward but I stood still.
   "Are you okay! I need you clean for your apprentice ceremony!"
   He started grooming my fur. What was going on? Diamondstar had the same expression on her face. I Shrugged. He had my fur clean though.
   When he finished he started cleaning his fur and walked out of the den. The clan was whispering things I couldn't hear. Diamondstar jumped on the high rock.
   "Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey join here beneath the highrock." She called. Briarbush woke up from the medicine den and lightningstorm walked out the warriors den,silverpaw and cloverpaw left the elders den, swallowpaw came from the feash-kill pile. A black and white Tom left the medicine den.Berryfur,morningmoon and the Kits came out the nursery and the rest of the cats came into the clearing and sat in the middle.
   "Today is a day that every cat has experienced. An apprentice ceremony day." She began. The clan murmured agreement.
   "Falconkit, you have reached the age of six moons. And it's time for you to be apprenticed."
   I was so excited my tail wouldn't keep still!
   "From this day on," she continued. "Until you've received your warrior name, you will be know as Falconpaw. Your mentor will be firepelt. I hope he passes his wisdom and courage to you."
   Wow! I got firepelt! I was thinking I'll get the black and white tom! The clan cheered my name. "Falconpaw! Falconpaw! Falconpaw!" They didn't sound like they cared.Firepelt rested his muzzle on my head. I licked his shoulder to show respect. I looked to diamondstar. She was jumping down from the rock. I looked over to berryfur. She was outraged! The kits pierced my heart with their angered stares. Goldenkit however, looked happy. His ember eyes closed and he turned to go back to the nursery.
   I felt bad for him. He didn't do anything.
   "Firepelt?" I asked.
   "Yes?"
   "G-goldenkit, he didn't do anything. Why does he have to take the punishment?"
   "He doesn't have to."
   Firepelt bounded to diamondstar and told her something. I couldn't hear what he was saying but she nodded and jumped up on the rock.
   "My apologies!" She mewed as the cats gathered up again.
   "We will also apprentice another cat." She looked over to berryfur and the kits. They were excited except goldenkit. His head was down and he had a scratch on his eye. It wasn't bad and it didn't need to be treated but I know who did that. Featherkit.
   "Goldenkit!" Diamondstar meowed.
   He lifted his head in shock and walked away from berryfur them and to stand next to me. I backed up a little and looked away from him. I only did it for him. Not me.
   "Goldenkit, you have reached the age of six moons and its time you were apprenticed. From this day forward Until you receive your warrior name,you will be known as Goldenpaw. Your mentor will be peachfur."
   Peachfur walked up and touched Goldenpaws head with her muzzle. Firepelt ordered me to sleep for the whole day to regain my strength. I didn't mind. I was exhausted. I stumbled to the apprentices den.when I walked in cloverpaw,silverpaw, and swallowpaw yowled "suprise" they had made my nest. I then realized how tired I was my eyes were heavy.
   "Thank you guys so much!" I yawned then flopped into my newly made nest. I could smell mostly cloverpaw. He probably made it. I closed my eyes as I heard Goldenpaw come into the den. I didn't bother to look I was just too tired.
