Podd could not sleep that night. Even if he already closed his eyes, thirty seconds later, they would be opened much to his dismay. He had done this multiple times in his queen-sized bed. His body wanted to rest whereas his mind did not. Instead, he kept recalling the uncalled disaster or the biggest failure which eventually turning into a horrifying nightmare if he finally manage to sleep.
After Podd got back into his apartment, which he wondered how he could be safely arrived inside when he could not even remember most of the things after he walked out from the restaurant. For examples, the occasional push and pull of the steering wheel, the traffic lights and even the unlocking motion of his key into the lock door. It was like he was in autopilot!
After he had bathed, he checked his iPhone and received a long text from Summer. The longest one she ever sent to him. Informing Podd that she wouldn't be giving back those 'gifts' which he painfully aware that most of the things were bought because he was under a spell of persuasion from her. She also typed a few curses on what had happened two hours ago, his relationship with a man behind her which was untrue but Podd was feeling extremely exhausted that in the end, he blocked her number and mentally reminded himself to delete all the photos in his phone and in his Instagram. Oh and unfollow her too and deactivate his account in the dating site.
Should he gives his review on that website?
Podd was heartbroken. The feelings were like he had ran into a car, everything ached and his head was buzzing with bits and various scenes of him and Summer. Everything were coming at once in the exact time. Number 3, 3 times he had made his heart suffered easily. Podd blamed his lack of intelligence and oblivion, should realize that Summer only stayed with him for his money so that she could prolong leeching on him until he drains out. Fortunately, there was still a glimmer of kindness in her when she rejected his marriage proposal. Marrying with her absolutely ends up into a heart-rending divorce and the worst if it involves a child.
How could Podd decided to marry her?
Recalling the uncalled failure slash disaster not also lead him to be thinking about his ex-girlfriend but also to his pretended boyfriend which unconsciously bringing Podd's finger upon his lips.
Podd gently traced his lips and his tongue flickering out to taste around in case he could discover the taste of Gawin's lips but no, only the lingering taste of the fruity wine and the exquisite, spicy steak sauce.
Podd thought about Gawin for a moment. The voids of emotions in his brown eyes, the baritone voice that belonged to him and his cold words to Summer. Something created indescribable inside Podd's gut that he could not fathom.
In the end, he only wanted to sleep.
Two days later, after receiving countless of concern notes from his colleagues and subordinates at his work, Podd found himself standing in front of the Starlight after his work. He came with a sense of guiltiness towards Gawin for not thanking him after what he had done. Podd even wanted to treat him a dinner at a local restaurant that serves authentic cuisines. Before Podd entered, he took a deep breath because he was super nervous to meet Gawin again after their first encounter which he was claimed as his 'boyfriend'.
Instead of finding Rain at the counter with his genuine smile, it was a slender girl smiling at Podd. "Good evening sir, welcome to Starlight." "What can I help you with?" Her eyes crinkled lovely and Podd assumed she was younger than him, probably around Rain's age or maybe younger. Podd let out a small smile. He looked behind her, around, if he could catch a glimpse of a man in waiter clothes with rolled-up sleeves and a tight black pants.
Podd meant Gawin.
"I-I'm actually looking for Gawin?" "He works here as a waiter." The girl as Podd glanced over at her nametag that read Sarah was a little taken aback at the question directing to her but she eventually gave a smile to Podd and to her so that she could guarded her expression back to a normal, professional one.
" I'm sorry sir, unfortunately Gawin has no longer working here since a week ago." She informed with a dejected look. Podd's eyes were automatically wide. His normal expression had changed to sorrowful. Guiltiness inside him was growing twice bigger. "He did?"
"Does the reason because of his involvement in a wedding proposal of a customer?" Sarah had a look of bewilderment on her face before nodding a few. "How did you know sir?"
"I was the customer."
A curse spilled from her mouth and then she had her hand covering her mouth. "I'm sorry sir for lying because I thought you were a reporter."
"Actually our manager fired him."
Podd stepped out from the glass door of Starlight with a fresh hope. His heart felt slightly at ease after briefly chatting with Sarah and receiving her apology on behalf of the restaurant. He squeezed his fist that held a piece of small, torn paper with a newfound information that able to connect him to Gawin. Podd tucked it in his coat pocket and made his way to his sleek Camry.
