Virgil sighed as he sat up. He had barely gotten any sleep the past night, not that he wasn't used to that. He looked out the window, blinking in the early morning light.

"Virgil!" A voice yelled from down the hall. "Are you awake yet?"

"Yeah, what's up?" Virgil yelled back, getting to his feet. It was a bit cold in his room, and the corners seemed to be a bit damp. Must've rained last night.

"Come down here." The voice yelled, Virgil reconized it as Remus's. Virgil quickly stood up, hurrying down the hall.

Remus was sprawled out across the small table. Dolion was standing by the door to the outside. Virgil looked from his dad to his dad's boyfriend.

"Morning Virgil." Remus said, flicking his tiny wing in greeting. Virgil nodded in response, trying to read the two's moods.

Dolion rested his wing on the framework, testing it's stability. "Virgil, we have a plan. But we need your powers."

Virgil shifted nervously. Dolion never referred to Virgil's powers as part of Virgil, always as something distant. "What's the plan?" Virgil heard himself ask.

"We're going to use Prince Roman," Dolion spat the last two words like it was a horrible demon. "To bait the so called king here. Then we kill him, and take Mir back." Dolion's voice was cold and hostile.

"What? No!" Virgil said quickly. "You can't just kill someone for no reason!"

"We do have a reason. Our rightful land was stolen from us."Dolion retorted, anger filling his voice.

Virgil looked at Remus for backup, but was met with a half glare. "That was years ago! This king wasn't the one to drive us out!"

Dolion crossed his arms, eye's narrowing. His forked tongue flicked out of his mouth threateningly. "Oh so you side with the Mir people? You want us to continue hiding in the woods like mice?" He said, voice sounding too calm.

"That's not what I'm saying." Virgil protested, wings tucking back tightly. The small house plant on the broken down counter was mumbling about danger, blurring Virgil's thoughts.

"You're with us or against us Virgil, there's no in between. Either you help with this plan, or your not my son." Dolion said flatly, then turned and flew out of the house.

Virgil stared at where his dad had been standing, heart rate speeding up. Quickly he turned and raced out of the room, and entered his. Dolion had always taken things to an extreme, even more so when it came to protecting his tribe. He'd never gone this far though. There'd been banishments, strict laws, but never had anyone been killed.

Dolion used to have morals, but did he anymore? Virgil looked out his window, watching as a group of young kids ran by. They all looked so happy, something Virgil had never understood, even before his parents death. One took off the ground, flying higher and higher.

Virgil sighed, looking around his room. Would those kids prefer to stay happy in this woods, or witness a death? The whispers of the plants made it hard to think, and the occasional shout of an angry plant made it impossible.

"Shut up..." Virgil mumbled, trying to fight back a headache. The plants seemed to get louder and louder. "Just shut up." Virgil said louder, holding his head.

The plants seemed to all start shouting at once, clouding over any chance Virgil had to think about what to do. "SHUT UP!" Virgil yelled, his room went dark. A few seconds passed, then light rings flashed around Virgil's wings. Slowly they spread out and filled the room. The plant whispers were gone.

Virgil stared at the window, not really looking at anything. He couldn't let Dolion kill the king. No matter what the cost, Virgil would have to stop him.

Slowly Virgil turned to face the door, vision blurry with shook. He didn't know how much longer he would have a free headspace, he had to get this done quickly. He tried to take a step forward, but his limbs wouldn't move. He took a deep breath, and forced himself to take a step, then another.

After a few steps Virgil's shook was clearing, and he was able to leave his room, and make it all the way to the kitchen. Remus was gone, and the whole house seemed to be empty. Virgil stood in the doorway, looking out at the camp. Slowly he formatted a plan, it would be risky, but at this point everything was.

Virgil carefully flew to the ground, keeping his mind focused as he walked over to the small prison. There was only one guard in front of it, and luckily, it was one of the dumb ones. Skylar. Virgil swore they had as much brain as they had gender.

"Skylar, the plants were talking of danger at the far out skirts of the woods, everyone else is busy. Can you go check it?" Virgil asked, keeping his voice as steady and stiff as possible.

Skylar looked at him. "I'm supposed to stay here." They said, motioning at the prison.

"I can take over if you want." Virgil said, this made Skylar smile.

"Sure, I'll be back in a jiffy." With that they took off, flying towards the west outskirts. Virgil glanced around and rushed into the prison.

Only the prince was awake, and he glared at Virgil when he entered. "You," He growled angrily. "If I weren't tied up I'd kill yo-"

He was cut off as Virgil flicked his wrist, making the vines release them. "Not a good plan, considering I'm your only way out."

Roman stared at him, searching for words. "Why are you helping me?" He finally asked.

Virgil glanced at the door, before answering as quietly as he could, "Because right now, we're the only hope for your kingdom and my tribe."
