Your POV

Jack and I continued our way down to pick up Eve and DeeDee, idle chatter here and there. Upon seeing their house, Jack and I saw Eve and DeeDee heading down the street to check their mailbox. I started a light jog down, Jack following after.

I hugged Eve from behind her, "Anything for me?"

Eve smiled and wrapped an arm around me, "Nope. Nothing."

I pouted and moved to hug DeeDee who happily wrapped her arms around me. Jack pulled us all in for a group hug. I really loved them. They're all like my second family; like my real family. We continued our way down to the school, hurrying into our first classes. Unfortunately, my first class was without any of them and with a teacher who fancied surprise tests too much.

My school... It's your typical high school. Being a senior isn't always as fun as it's cracked up to be. The popular kids still reign supreme, the freshmen never change, and everyone is giving up. The teachers are also typical. You've got your fun, cool teachers who actually care about the students and try to actually help out when they can. You've also got the teachers who 'could've taught university', who talk and overshare about weird aspects of their lives, the teachers who don't teach and gave up actually teaching, the teachers who never learned to teach, and the teachers who make you think there's no point in trying to graduate. Me, I've made peace with it... Sort of. I'm a stupid remark away from telling some teachers how to do their jobs and tell them that the way things were when they were in school isn't how things are now, tell them that the new generations are changing things and want change. One teacher in particular makes me want to slam my head into a wall. So ignorant, so old. You'd think she'd learn to be understanding.

I walked into my class and shuffled past other students, towards the back corner of the classroom. I don't really like anyone outside of my normal friend circle. The kids in my classes are too loud, too self-centered... Too much. I pulled my phone and headphones and plugged in before my teacher, Mr. Davis could walk in.

I looked around, bored. Suddenly, I noticed something. We're almost five minutes into class and Mr. Davis is still not here. I groaned and took out a pencil and eraser, waiting for his head of red, curly hair to pop in with the-

"Pop quiz, kids! Take out a pencil and get ready for a pop quiz!" Mr. Davis said, waving a packet of two or three pages.

I hate when I'm right sometimes.

"Pop quizzes can be deemed neccessay, sure. But why can't we use our notes?" I asked, placing a forkfull of school spageti in my mouth.

Eve, ever the good kid, replied, "Because it's cheating. You can't cheat, or at least you shouldn't, in the real world. Or in your job."

"Counterpoint, ma'am," I said, pointing my fork at her, "When we start our carreer, and go on being adults, we go in knowledge, maybe a few notes. But if you are, for example, are running numbers, your boss isn't going to tell you to run the numbers without the notes with the numbers, or without allowing you to double check you're doing it right. Is it good to do get the job done fast? Yes, but it is better to do it right."

Eve rolled her eyes, "Must you always fight the system?"

I grinned, "As long as the system works against me, I'll work against it. The system is alive, it can change. All we need to do is push for change."

DeeDee chimmed in, "Does it have to be you? Or any of us?"

I shrugged, "Why not?"

Jack chuckled, "Jeez, you sound like some cheesy, main character."

"I aim to please. By the way, Mr. Davis has pop quizzes printed out, so good luck."

Jack, ever the drama queen, started to pretend to sob, loudly, into my shoulder, whining about how 'the universe was working against him'.
