CHAPTER ONE:
FIRST DAY BLUES•°• ✾ •°•
It was the day many people hated. The first day back to school. For Delta, it was a bittersweet feeling. On one hand, it was another year of what she liked to call "psychological torture." On the other hand, it was her last year in high school. She still had to decide about where she was going to apply for college but she figured she could worry about that after she got her timetable from the guidance office. She was a little early but she didn't entirely mind. There were other students waiting outside because of timetable complications so the guidance counselor had her hands full. Once her name was called, Delta walked into the guidance counselor's office and sat down right in front of her desk. She looked at the name tag that said T. Monroe and then looked back at the counselor.
"Delta Morgan?" the dark skinned woman asked and the teenage girl nodded with an awkward smile. "That's a very unique name."
"It means alpha in Latin. My mother wanted to give me an empowering name," Delta said with a little shrug.
"Well if you ask me, I think she made an excellent choice," Monroe said as she typed something on the computer and quickly wrote something on a notepad. "Let's talk about your timetable and courses."
"I got an email saying I didn't have the prerequisite for AP biology but I took the course in summer school so I actually do have the prerequisite for it," Delta said as she picked up her bag and pulled out a piece of paper, which happened to be her report card from when she finished the summer school course.
She handed the sheet of paper to Monroe and she looked over it quickly before typing away on her computer.
"Do you plan on continuing science in post-secondary?" she asked.
"Not really. I just like science because I find it interesting," Delta said with a little shrug.
Monroe smiled as she stood up and took a piece of paper from the printer and handed it to Delta. "Here's your timetable and if you need help with anything, my door is always open," she said and Delta managed to smile just a little bit so she didn't seem rude.
"Thank you," she said as she stood up and put her bag over her shoulder.
She left the guidance office with her new timetable in hand and started heading to her first class. There were a few minutes left before the bell rang and she wanted to quickly find it and go inside. Nobody liked to be late on the first day of school because it left a bad impression. For Delta, she just wanted to pick a seat in the back far away from the teacher before all the back seats were taken. She never liked to sit in the front because it made her one of the first people her teachers called on to answer a question, even though she never raised her hand. She never understood why teachers did that. Why pick on the people who didn't raise their hand when there were plenty of people who did?
