A kit woke up in the dead of night to whisperings. 'The poor thing.' a voice whispered. 'I still can't believe what happened to Leafpelt and Goldenstalk. The kit's ears pricked up. Those were his parent's names! 'They were fearless in battle.' another male voice said. 'And it's his naming day!'

'Then.' A commanding female voice echoed and made all the cats go silent. 'Since he lost his parents only a few days after he was born, we will call him Lostkit.' A meow of approval rang through the mountain they lived on. Lostkit knew what lost meaning. He wasn't lost. Was he?

That night he had a dream. He was running through a forest. He had only thought of these things. Suddenly, he stopped. His mother was in front of him. 'Leafpelt?' he asked. His mother's warming voice rang through the trees. 'It is me, Lostkit. I'm proud of you getting your name. I cannot be here with you in reality, but' -she looked upward- 'I will be watching you in the stars, in a clan called StarClan.' Leafpelt's slender form began to disintegrate. 'Leafpelt!! No!' Lostkit tried grabbing his mother but it was too late. She and Goldenstalk were in StarClan now.

Lostkit woke up colder than usual. Now Leafpelt was gone, he had no mother. His sister yawned and stretched. 'Hey!' she cheerfully exclaimed. 'Isn't today the day we get our names?' As if on queue, the clan leader, Waspstar regally walked in. 'Our naming ceremony is now. First, kits of Swanfeather and Flamefluff.' She named the kits Plumkit and Owlkit. 'Next, kits of Leafpelt.' With a wave of her tail, she named Lostkit's sister, Mistykit. 'And you are...' A look of distaste worked its way onto Waspstar's face.' Lostkit.' She padded out of the nursery the same way she came in.

After a few minutes, Mistykit asked the others and Lostkit to go to play near the Hotstones, the barrier between CaveClan and CliffClan. Lostkit agreed. 'The only thing is, I don't want to play rough...' 'Relax! We're only playing Do or Die!' Mistykit said excitedly. "Mistykit has seemed not to realize Leafpelt and Goldenstalk have gone." Lostkit thought. "What will I tell her?" His thoughts were interrupted by Owlkit screaming, 'Mercy! Mercy! Ha, ha, ha!' In the distance, Plumkit was laying down with some berries and eating them. They were a nice shade of red. 'Wait... they look like deathberries, Plumkit. Don't....' His question was answered by Plumkit starting to wiggle and writhe on the ground.
