~Enigma~
Despite not being able to drive, the ride went as smoothly as I planned. Not only is everyone calm and getting along but they technically owe me one. It was no simple task breaking out of Arkham, and the fact I had to get those four out as well only made it more difficult and challenging. Not that I am one to back away from a challenge. As you can see I was clearly up for the task as we now resided in my father's safe house. We arrived around dawn. I provided each and every one of them with a change of clothes. My father says the best time to hear information is when you're away. I left the room, staying close to see if I could hear any chatter.
Father always says check the board before moving your pawn, a rook may be ready to attack. In English, I believe it means never go forward with a plan until your sure no one working against you. I peak out the hallway, listening closely to the four as they reside in the living area.
Rachel moved around the living area. Somehow she managed to find the one plant in the entire place and was focused on giving it the attention it desperately needed. Speaking of needy for attention, Jessie Kane sat back lounging in the boring clothes I provided him. I can tell from his mannerisms he is itching to stain the simple grey tee with blood. His knife moves quickly in repetitive motions to carve a J into the table. "Anna Bo Banna, what's troublin ya dearie?"
Tiredness lingered over Anna from their escape. Anna sat on the couch, resting her head on her brother's shoulder. His twisted smile made Anna's stomach turn as she made eye contact with him. "Hmm?"
"That frown, you mad ya not back in that loonie toon bin."
Anna took a deep breath, collecting her thoughts. She took a second to reply, before shaking her head. "It's not that." She looked around a moment, almost to look to see if I had returned. Her voice lowered to a soft whisper. "-it's just, why do I have a feeling this is going to cost us?"
Her brother looked over at her with a perplexed expression. Matt's face held the purest look of confusion, which I found pleasure in of course. I love when people are so utterly unaware of their situation, and for him, that was often."What, you guys don't think E decided to help us escape out of the kindness of her heart ?"
The room went dead silent. Rachel looked up from her plant, and Jesse stopped carving the J on the table as all eyes were on Matt. Each expression held a sense of disbelief like if Matt just said the most stupid sentence. To be fair, he did.
Anyone who knew me or my wonderful father knew we never did anything without some benefit to ourselves. We are intelligent people, and doing anything, especially using our genius, for free would be foolish.
The frown spreads from Anna to Matt. His hand runs through his curly brunette hair, seemingly frazzled by the thought. His expression wraps as he begins to realize that they were all correct.
"Oh shit." Matt wrings his hands nervously.
A bellowing laugh comes from Jessie's lips as his jade green eyes connect with mine.
"Yeah, girlie-" Everyone's attention falls on me as I step forward. "What gives? Do ya or your daddy needs a liver or something?" Jessie snickers, spinning around in his chair.
"No neither myself nor my father is in need of a liver." I correct him. "-but I thought we could team up for a small project of mine." I smile, trying my best to sell it.
Matt shakes his head, "The five of us? Working together. Now no offense E, I just don't think that would work."
"Hear me out. We all want a bigger piece in the game right? And Gotham is already filled with rouges. More then we can count, it's just not the same anymore. Why don't we go to San Francisco? Show our idols, our mentors, our parents. We don't need them anymore."
