The room was dark, and the raindrops pelted the window with soft taps every now and again. Reaper sat in his chair, quietly writing at his desk, only a small beam of light from the hallway lighting the paper. The pens that sat in the desk's drawers had remained unused for many years, as the God of Death preferred using quills. The scratch of the tip of the quill on the paper filled the room, and complimented the rain's music on the window. It was the perfect environment for writing. At least, to Reaper it was, as it was a way to reduce his building stress. Someone knocked on the door, snapping Reaper out of his focus. He sighs. "Come in."
Raven opened the door and stood in the doorway for a moment. Raven was tall, taller then his mother, Geno. Although, that wasn't very surprising as Geno was rather short. He was 16 years old already, which still baffled Reaper every time he thought about it. Reaper smiled at his son weakly.
"Hey, Raven. Any updates...?" Reaper asked hopefully, setting down the quill.
Raven shook his head. "No, he's still asleep... are you sure he's okay?..."
Reaper sighed and stood from his desk. "Alright. I'm going to go check on him... and yes, I'm sure your mother will be fine... and if anything goes wrong I'm sure Life could help us out." He patted Raven on the shoulder as he passed him and smiled softly.
He quietly walked to their bedroom and opened the door. Geno was laying down, sleeping peacefully. It was nice, but what was worrying was that he hadn't woken up in 48 hours. Reaper sat on the bed next to Geno and took his hand softly. He was worried beyond reason, but he didn't show it. He had always stayed strong when times were rough but it was never as bad as this. Raven had to stay home because Reaper had to be out all day, and Geno couldn't supervise their other children, Goth and Shino. They'd tried to wake him up, but it never worked. It suddenly occurred to Reaper that if it continued for any longer it would be classified as a coma, and he'd have to contact Life about the situation.
Reaper closed his eyes and sighed. He was exhausted, between the daily reapings and anxiety about his lover's health, he was ready to pass out. But, of course, he couldn't do that quite yet. Shino was only 7 years old, and wouldn't go to bed themselves even if it killed them. He squeezed his unconscious lover's hand tightly before letting go and standing up with a sigh. He exited the room and closed the door behind him.
"Shino! It's time to go to sleep!" He called out in the hallway. An audible 'uuuuuggghhh' could be heard from the other room, followed by two pairs of quick footsteps. Goth rounded the corner first and smiled at his father. He was holding a small book, and it occurred to Reaper that Goth had probably been reading to his younger sister. It made him feel a little guilty that he hadn't been there to do it himself. Shino then appeared and sprinted down the hall, screaming.
"I DON'T WANNA GO TO SLEEP!!" She slammed into Reaper's legs and fell over. Reaper just stared down at her.
"Well it's time to get some rest, okay? You can play tomorrow."
"Nooooooooo! We were having funn!" Shino whined. Goth sighed and took his younger sister's hand.
"C'mon, sis. Let's go to your room to sleep. I can read you the rest of the book as you go the bed, if you want." Goth said calmly.
Shino huffed but nodded. "Okay..."
Reaper stepped out of the way and chuckled to himself.
"Since when are you a better parent than I am, Goth?" He asked, jokingly. Goth smirked at him.
