They tell you about Icarus
and you hold your mouth agape
Did he not feel the icy chill
of burning away
consciousness drapes you in a veil
making you more human
limiting your perception
You ride the Ferris wheel of unending expectations
And now,
Life is suffering
Happiness an excuse
Love a sickness
And knowledge a curse
So you dwell in the maddness
and wait for your turn
to show the world
Your purpose undone
How long will you wait in the shadows
before you learn to shine
Wanting to prove yourself different
yet shying first look of change
You wish upon a fairytale
Yet you live everyday just the same
Let go of everything holding you back
Snatch back your mind
Reignite your heart
Let the fire within you light the path
You are everything legends are made of
So for once, close your eyes
and enjoy this suffering
Heaven is hope
Hell only your fears
so let love be your sickness
And happiness your excuse
Then you shall understand
before Icarus fell
Icarus flew.
AUTHOR'S NOTE: This piece is inspired by a conversation with an old friend.Who knew the dark, brooding mysterious guy at the back of the class was a poet, romantic and a philosophical thinker! This one is for him and for the girl that helped him crawl out of his shell one step at a time. You know who you are! I hope I did your idea justice!
