You tell me not to break your dreams
But how could you dream for me?
You tell me not to put you down
But how could you put me up so high
You tell me I should be glad
I had a better start in life
But don't you know I live in fear
I am afraid of hieghts
The spotlight that you threw me in
has turned me blind
I cannot see who I was
or who I wish to be
You put the baggage of your past
upon my shoulders
The youth you wished you had
I am forced to live
My head is not my own
It is a product of your sayings
My chest heaves my lungs expand
But don't mistake me for living
How could you steal from me my hope my reason?
How could you pretend you knew what I would regret?
Did you think you were helping?
Did you think you could think for me?
When i try to find a voice
you shut me up with
"It's cause I love you"
But could that really be true
When i'm nothing but afraid of you?
