North checked his phone. Soccer try outs were finished for the day and now the annoying part of his day started. They'd gone alright. None of the newbies stood out but the year hadn't started yet so he might yet be pleasantly surprised. Nate would be there soon to go over possible conditioning programs. He really needed to organize his notes and discuss them with Silas.

"What did you think?" North asked his friend.

"If they play like they try out we won't make State finals. I'm hoping Nate has some suggestions for whipping the final team into shape. It wouldn't be so bad if we had more than four returning players. One or two malleable freshmen would be fine but we're looking at filling eleven slots with new freshmen and mediocre sophomores." Silas replied rubbing his hand over his head.

"Who is that with Nate? Her bag is bigger than she is." North nodded towards the field where girls were assembling.

"No clue, she kind of looks like a female Sean though. Does Sean have a sister he never told us about?" Silas shrugged and watched his red-headed friend hug the tiny blonde before heading towards them.

"Hey guys, how were try outs this morning?" Nate asked as he joined the other two on the bleachers.

"Unless you can work a miracle, we have a losing season heading our way. They weren't terrible but none of them are here on a soccer scholarship." Silas answered while North scowled.

"Okay show me what we're working with and I'll take the list to Raven and we'll work you up a program that should at least get them into playing shape. I'll leave the skills portion to the pair of you." Nate pulled out a notebook from his athletic bag. "Had an interesting encounter this morning. Karen's find will make you jealous."

"Why?" Silas asked handing over his notes.

"The little blonde I walked up with. That's Sang. She's here on a partial field hockey scholarship. Talking with her this morning she was on the team we beat at nationals last year." Nate filled them in before looking through the notes. "She was on the track running before I was this morning. Raven didn't make her cry even at his rudest. She just told him she needed advice and then went on with her conditioning. She was running into an issue where she is a peanut and the machines are made for taller people. After watching her run a low weight high rep weight program and an ab work out that made mine ache in sympathy, the three of us sat down and worked out what exactly was happening with her knees and if there was any damage done. Her focus impressed Raven. He was convinced that she was a silly little girl who was going to try to snag an athlete, right up until she ran through her conditioning with complete focus."

"Does she have any other interests beside field hockey?" North asked.

"Um North, that's the girl our brothers were talking about last night. If their impressions are anything to go from, she's more than a jock." Silas looked at his friend.

"She is a lot more than a jock. I spent the morning getting to know her. She was telling me how the school has her on the diplomacy track so heavy poli sci, cultural anthropology, and Miss Rose is having her TA all her freshmen and sophomore language classes this fall. I think she's going to have a bit of culture shock though. She's been at a private girls school since pre-kindergarten and boarding at that school since second grade. The Academy is so far removed from what she's used to that I'm worried she's going to have trouble." Nate supplied looking up from his notes. "Watch her out there. I struggled to keep my head in her consult this morning and not pull a Luke daydreaming about her. She's going to be like catnip to some of the idiots we go to classes with. I'm just glad that football try outs aren't until next week. Rocky won't be back until this weekend. He's going to be all over her if we don't close ranks and stake a claim this week."
