Song Kaeul stared at herself in her vanity mirror unsure if she really liked the hair style she had just finished. Her beautiful orb-like eyes that were a combination of pink and red resembling the sky at sunset blinked several times trying to take in the whole look. She had tied up the front part of her tailbone length hair to the front of her head, leaving the rest of it down. The ombré brown locks cascading around her shoulders. Then she placed a little golden bow at the base of her ponytail. Sighing she stood up and went to her long mirror to see her full outfit and hair put together. She twirled around twice making her black and white checkered skirt balloon around her just as her older brother walked in.
"Wow, Song Kaeul~!" Mingi teased leaning on the door post of her room. His usually messy red hair combed and parted to the side. Kaeul stopped spinning, her face turning pink in embarrassment.
"Can't you knock?" She asked him, trying to fix her bow tie.
"I can but I didn't think it mattered." He laughed watching her try to tie it. He walked to h er and helped. "Who are you looking all pretty for? Do you have a date?" He teased. Now her ears turned a bright pink.
"Oppa!!" Kaeul threw a decorative pillow from her couch at him. He dodged it and it went over the handrail to the first floor of the penthouse. "Get out!"
"Hurry up then. I'm driving you to school and don't want to be late." Mingi said walking out of her room. She immediately turned back to her vanity but just before she could scrutinize her look again he popped his head back in. "Hey," he said sincerely, "You look great. Don't worry."
Her ears turned a brighter shade of pink and she was scowling but she was grateful for the compliment. She started to fix up the little things she thought were imperfect before she grabbed her backpack and headed down to the car. Mingi pulled out of the parking lot and got onto the main road. Based on the time and it being a Monday there should have been a ton of traffic but he was grateful everything was smooth on the road.
The siblings started living together since Mingi entered University. Their parents held very high and many times unrealistic expectations of them. It made it hard just to be a family. They were also busy with their own business ventures so the relationship between the four of them was never good. Once Mingi got a job he moved out with Kaeul into an upscale apartment, which was thanks to their family being in the upper class of the city.
They arrived at the school in good time. Kaeul said her goodbye's and walked off to her classroom. Watching her go he heaved a heavy sigh. Kaeul was a good kid, polite, smart, and in control of the ability she was given. But she never asked for anything. She never acted spoiled. He just couldn't understand why she was this way but at the same time he was grateful that she didn't cause any trouble. He just wanted her to be a normal high schooler, as normal as their Galaxy would allow.
Their Galaxy was populated with individuals that had heightened abilities. No one really understood the purpose of those abilities since there was never an immediate threat to the livelihood of humanity. These abilities didn't show themselves until elementary school and didn't fully develop until adulthood. The possibilities of these abilities were endless, from telekinesis to a third eye to just being able to make plants grow, everyone had something. Mingi was able to hear the thoughts of those in a 10 mile radius, with training from school he was able to hone it in and read one individual's thought at a time. Kaeul was blessed to feel the emotions of people around her. Although she wasn't able to control who she could sense emotions from she was able to manipulate them to her choosing.
Kaeul opened the door to her classroom to see her classmates conversing as usual. Some of them were showing off their abilities and most of them gossiping. It was the first day back to school after a long holiday weekend. The city celebrated with a parade that culminated in an all night festival. Kaeul had spent the weekend celebration with her brother while her classmates got together for the festivities. Mingi had asked her if she wanted to go with them but she preferred to stay with him. She honestly didn't know how to interact with her classmates and felt like it was too much work to learn since she was already in her last year of high school. Some of her classmates watched her go to her seat in annoyance. They didn't have fond thoughts about her. Kaeul never revealed to them what ability she had which made them think she didn't have one. They also thought she was stuck up since she didn't talk to others and was emotionless for the most part. Kaeul was aware of all those feelings but didn't do anything to change them since she felt it was invading their privacy. Plus she told herself that she didn't care, she tried not to at least.
