Percy Jackson's P.O.V

The seaweed is always greener

I swam deeper and deeper

In somebody else's lake

I couldn't take it any more

You dream about going up there

It was too much

But that is a big mistake

I felt a wave of dread was over me as the song that had been non stop playing in my mind for a month reached its chorus

I should probably tell you what's going on. Well a month ago my 4 year old sister Estelle watched the little mermaid for the first time and became o b s e s s e d with it.

I'm not kidding she watches it twice a day, everyday.

And because I can say no to her puppy dog eyes I have to watch it with her. Now everyone at camp thinks I'm crazy because I've stared speaking entirely in little mermaid quotes.

Until today when I snapped, halfway through the first showing of the film I stood up and left.

I walked straight into the sea, scaring a group of teenagers sitting on the beach, then started swimming.

I don't know where to. As long as it's far away from that film.

In hindsight going underwater to escape a film about a mermaid probably wasn't the best choice but I keep going anyway.

After a while I reach a old looking shipwreck. I approach it but freeze when I hear a voice coming from inside

"Look at this stuff. Isn't it neat. Wouldn't you think my collection's complete?"

Great I'm hallucinating about a 30 year old animated children's film.

I swim closer, wanting to see if the shipwreck is real or a figment of my imagination so I know what to tell the therapist I desperately need.

I swam through what once must have been a grand doorway and see a mermaid with flowing red hair. She's facing away and hadn't seen me yet.

"Are you fucking kidding me?" I asked to nobody I particular.

The mermaid spun around and pointed a fork at me.

"Who are you?" She asked, looking me up and down ". . . And how are you alive? You're not a merperson"

"Nope, but I know who you are Ariel" I laughed slightly.

Ariel swam closer and put the fork against my throat. "What are you?" She asked seriously.

I was very confused. Were hallucinations supposed to threaten you with cutlery or feel so.  .  . Solid? This couldn't be right"

"So your real? Not my mind playing tricks on me?"

"Yes I'm real, who are you?"

"Ok chill. My name's Percy Jackson and I'm a son of Poseidon, that's why I can breath under water."

"A son of Poseidon? I think I have heard of you. My father doesn't like you much"

"Yeah, well Triton's like that. But how are you real? You're just a Disney movie."

"A what?"

"Do you know about Disney?"

"No"

"Well it's a company that makes films and steals your money. Anyway one of their most famous films is 'the little mermaid' and it tells the story of a mermaid called Ariel. My little sister loves it."

"I must see this film you speak of"

"Well you're on your own. I've seen that film more times then I can count. I'll have a mental breakdown if I watch it again"

"Please"

"Ugh fine. Can you walk on land?"

Soon Percy and Ariel, who has legs now because magic, stood infront of the Jackson/Blofis appartement door.

Percy opened it and called out "Stella I have a surprise for you!"

A 4 year old ran out of the living room to great her older brother she stopped dead in her tracks when she saw Ariel.

"Is that-"

"Yep. Now go watch the little mermaid again"

Estelle didn't need to be told twice she grabbed the Princess by the hand and dragged her Infront of the TV.

Percy watched Estelle and Ariel in their pillow fort from a safe distance away wearing earplugs. They both had wide smiles on their faces.

Sally tapped her son on the shoulder and he removed one of his earplugs

"You a good big brother. You know that right?"

Percy smiled "Thanks, I try"
