Chapter Five

I wake up the next morning with the sun shining through the window at the top of my cell. The concrete below me is cold. I'm still laying on the floor of the palace cell. I turn over and see a bruise on my right hip. I get up and walk over to the cell door. One guard stands by the door, across the room. Another stands at the desk, in front of my cell. A clock sits at the front of the desk. It's 9 O'clock.

"Hey, what am i doing here?" I ask, no one. The guards don't answer. One of the guards looks at me with a raised eyebrow but doesn't say anything. I go sit over on the bed, across the cell. I think about what happened last night. I set the place on fire last night. I was on fire last night.

About 10 minutes later the guards hop to their feet. I look up to see the prince standing there. Jacob stands in front of the cell, in a white and red uniform. He seems to wear those colors a lot, i think to myself.

One of the guards unlocks the cell and the prince walks in. His guards try to follow him but are quickly waved off by the prince.

Is he trying to get blown to pieces, like last night when I almost burnt that girl to a pile of ash?

"Bell Evans," he says, smiling at me. I stare at him for a while. "Are you wanting me to burn you to a crisp?" i ask, confused about why he is so brave to come so close to a girl that could possibly light him on fire.

"You can try." he smiles at me and winks. Again.

I try to force a flame but I can't. Then I look up and notice that in the center of his hand, the prince forms a small flame. I stare in amazement. He can do it too? Without looking up, he answered what I was thinking. "They call me a Flame Maker." He looks at his hand and the flame within it. Then, he looks up at me, "and you are one too." he smiles at me with his beautiful smile and perfect teeth.

The next day, I woke up to a pile of clothes on the edge of the bed. On top of the clothes was a note. I look to see if the guards are looking my way. But the one at the desk is asleep and the ones at the door can't see me from here. I change out of the messy, burned clothes from the night before and into the new, clean clothes on my bed. The outfit is one piece. A jumpsuit. When I try to get it on, I notice it is a thick, orange and black, fabric.
Fireproof.

When I get the jumpsuit on, I pick up the note and read it.

Wow.

So am I living here forever? What time is it? I read the clock on the desk, where the guard sits. 10 O'clock. Shoot! I missed lessons, which I don't really care about. But, i missed breakfast! And it's 10 'til training.

The guards see that I'm up and walk over to my cell. The one that sits at the desk, opens the cell door. The two by the doors grab me and start to walk out.

We walk down a huge and long hall. I memorize where we are going, just in case I need to make a run for it. Left, left, right, left and up, left, down, and straight.
The training room.

Firearms, such as guns, bows, knives, and swords, line the walls. Many targets line the walls on the opposite side of the room. Someone stands on the other side of the room, facing a target. His hands, palm side facing the target. Fire shoots from his hands and the target lights up, with fire. Orange and red, like the sunset

Jacob turns around as a sprinkler, on the ceiling, turns on and puts the fire out. Jacob walks towards us. He waves the guards off and the guards stand outside, the door closed behind them.

He grabs my hand but I rip it away. He gives me a look. "I'm not going to hurt you," he smiles at me. "Follow me." He talked up and stood in front of a target, the one next to the one he lit on fire before. Standing next to the one he hit last time, he points at the center of the target. "Hit the center circle." The target has 4 circles- yellow, blue, red, white, in that order.

I pick up my hands and aim right at the middle of the target. I try to form a flame but can't. I focus and push with all I have. I must have every vein popping out of my face because he lays a hand on my arm and shoulder. "Relax..." he calms me. I focus on my breathing. In. out. In. out. I relax my shoulders. I can feel the fire running through my veins now. I feel it up and through my arms and in my hands. Next thing you know, fire shoots from me, almost taking off jacob's head and almost taking out all of the targets. Fire shoots out at all angles. I jerk my hands down, shutting out the fire. Jacob stands next to me with his hands over his head and eyes the size of apples.

"Sorry!" I start to walk towards the door, embarrassed of what just happened.

The guards are waiting outside the door and I ask them to take me back to the cell. One of the guards nods his head and we head down the hall.

I have nothing to do in this cell so i sit there, thinking about home. I miss jenna and mom and dad so much right now. I think of all the fun times we've had and how I don't know if we will ever have any more...

Then my thoughts are ruined when I hear someone speaking at the door. I look up from the bed as someone walks in front of the cell doors. Jacob.

He opens the door with a key and walks in. He rubs the back of his neck. Then, he looks up at me. "Are you okay?" he asks, with a slight smile. "Like after what happened earlier..." he trails off. I notice how tense his shoulders and arms are. He awkwardly stands there.

"Um... yeah, im fine... how are you?" I ask, letting out a small laugh when I remember what had happened. I almost took off his head.

"Yeah I'm good," he chuckles. "It was just a little frightening at the moment."

I laugh at his response. I bet it was. We stand there for a bit, not knowing what to say.

"Um...," he breaks the silence. "You want to go on a walk around the garden?" He smiles at me, knowing I like the garden.

"Sure." Trying to not sound too excited to go out and get some fresh air.

Jacob tells the guards that we are going on a walk and that we are going to be back in a bit.
