Dr. Hibble spent the next two months planning it out. He would have his only friend and lab partner, Dr. Fume, receiving the radio transmissions as Dr. Hibble steered the ship through the earth. The radio transmissions, as much as he hated this, would be broadcasted to the world, as the other scientists called it a "groundbreaking mission", nobody having gone this far down before. It would take a month, as he had predicted, to get the the outside edge of the inner core, where he would then be incinerated.

In a few days, he would be boarding the Spelunker  for the first and last time. It was enough time to get everything in order, and to write his will, leaving the lab and all his possessions to Dr. Fume.

Finally, boarding day had arrived. Hibble tried to keep his eyes to the ground as crowds cheered him on. He headed for the cockpit, which sat at the top of the giant drill, and sat down on the padded seat. He took a deep breath, and turned on the Spelunker.  The drill's whirring cut over the sound of the cheers.

Here we go.
