Kairi watched out the window from inside the building, which was connected to the stage, gazed at all the people disperse from the area. His hands scratched against the sill and tapped the heal of his foot.

"You have three minutes,"The peacekeeper said as Maiya and his mother walked in.

"Maiya, Maiya, it's okay,"Kairi said hugging her tightly as she cried into his arms,"Shh. Maiya, I don't have much time."

"Maiya, listen. You're gonna be okay. Don't take any extra food for money. Its not worth putting your name in more times, okay?"He continued as he moved a strand of hair out of her face,"Listen, Maiya. Alejandro will bring you game. You can sell cheese from your goat."

"Just try to win. Maybe you can,"Maiya said gasping for air after every other word.

"Maybe I can, I'm smart you know?"Kairi said trying to be positive.
"You can hunt,"Maiya said with her sobs dying down.

"Exactly,"Kairi said staring into her eyes.

They both looked at each other for another few seconds before Maiya dug something out her pocket. It was the pin that he game her earlier.

"It's to protect you,"She said handing the pin to Kairi.

Kairi looked at a bit longer before saying thank you. He grabbed her head and kissed her forehead while hugging her. He looked up at his mother and slowly walked up to her.

"You can't tune out again,"He said staring deep into her eyes.
"I won't,"She said softly

"No, you can't,"He said sternly,"Not like when dad died. I won't be here anymore. Your all she has. No matter what you feel, you will be there for her. You understand?"

All she did was nod as tears formed in her eyes. Kairi pulled her close to him and hugged her tightly while rubbing her back. It hurt him to see his mother in this state, but he wouldn't dare let Maiya get killed in the games.

"Don't cry,"He whispered in her ear as he rubbed her neck.

"It's time,"The Peacekeeper said walking into the room.

"It's okay. Maiya, it's okay," Kairi said as she ran over to him yelling no.

The peacekeeper grabbed Maiya and forced her to let go of Kairi. All he could do was say it's okay as they dragged his family away from him.

"I promise Maiya,"Kairi said as the door shut closed.

Kairi stared at the door with tears in his eyes but then slowly walked towards the door. He grabbed the door knob and cracked it open and seen peacekeepers standing outside of it. As soon as she shut the door, it bursted open and he came in contact with Alejandro. They both stared for a moment then hugged each other tightly. The silence was peaceful and warming.

"I'm fine,"He muttered into Alejandro's shoulder.
"No you're not,"Ale said rubbing his thumb across his back.

"I am,"Kairi said breaking the hug.
"Listen to me."Ale said rubbing Kairi's shoulders,"You're stronger than they are. You are. Get to a bow."

"They may not have a bow,"Kairi said cutting Alejandro off.
"What if you show them how good you are?"He continued,"They just want a good show. That's all they want."

"If they don't have a bow, then you make one, okay?"He said as Kairi nodded,"You know how to hunt."

"They're not animals,"Kairi said while his voice cracked.
"It's no different Kairi,"Alejandro said shaking his head.

"There's 24 of us Alejandro and only one of us comes out,"He said shaking.
"Yeah, and it's gonna be you,"Alejandro said touching the back of Kairi's neck.

"Okay, it's time,"The gaurds said opening the door once more.
"Take care of them Ale,"Kairi said with a tear rolling down his cheek,"Whatever you do don't let them starve."

Alejandro kisses Kairi on his lips with passion. Butterflies sparked all around them, but was soon cut short from the peacekeeper grabbing Alejandro.

"I'll see you soon okay?"Alejandro said as he was being pushed out.

And with that the door shut closed, leaving Kairi all alone with only his thoughts.
