A pair of cold black eyes lock their gaze towards mine, his face showing a look of intent. It's clear that he wants something from me.
This look on his face, this is the real him.
I'm certain of one thing now...
He is now looking at me as his target.
A month has passed since this school year started, throughout that period, we have been acting like total strangers.
We never spoke. Not even once.
Nobody ever thought that we knew each other, but now that he's after me, I don't think we can maintain that kind of relationship anymore.
With his eyes still interlocked with mine, he stood up and started walking in our direction.
The girl beside him looked like she was in the middle of a sentence, disappointed by his sudden departure.
He left her without saying a thing.
That's the Hugo I know. He never cared about the feelings of the people around him.
Toughening myself up, I furrowed my eyebrows and gave him a stern look.
I won't be playing along in his games.
I will confront him here and now.
I glared deep in his eyes as I waited for him to get closer.
A few seconds pass and he is finally standing right in front of me.
Suddenly, his expression changed, all traces of intent disappeared in an instant.
His eyes were no longer devoid of emotion,
rather,
I witnessed something I had never seen before.
A sad look.
He's giving me a sad look.
Dumbfounded, my eyebrows and eyelids rise, the words of confrontation I was eager to speak were pushed back in an instant.
"Good morning Hugo!"
The sad expression Hugo was giving shifted into a look of surprise.
Rayleigh's lively presence replaced the tension building up inside me.
The next few moments were filled with an array of faces.
"Good morning Rayleigh." Hugo put back on his pretentious smile before returning the greeting. "If it's okay with you, can we leave together after class?"
"I want to come too." I butt in with a straight face.
"What?" Rayleigh gave me a confused look.
"Sorry Val," Hugo turns towards me. "I would prefer if this went between me and Rayleigh only."
