The sky slowly transitioned into a light blue between my window's curtains. The sun was about to rise. I tried to force my eyelids to close one more time, trying to get some sleep.
I had no idea what time it is. My mom confiscated my phone last night, and I couldn't rest at all knowing Calvin would have texted or called as he said we would also meet today.
I rose up to sit on the bottom edge of my bed, It's too late to try and sleep now. I swept aside the curtains, opening the window to watch the sunrise.
Back then, I would usually be exercising outside at this time. I enjoyed the morning atmosphere, and would always go for a jog whenever I got the chance. I loved watching the place slowly wake up as I roamed around, but ever since we moved out, I haven't been able to do so.
It always felt like I wasn't supposed to be here, as if I was an alien trying to live on another planet. That was until the girl next door, Rayleigh, found me walking home alone, in the same direction she was walking.
From the very moment we met, I felt comfort with her... as if she was someone I already knew. Since then, we've always been together. Especially when school started, she would always come to my house for us to walk together.
I wanted to call her last night, I wanted to check up on her to know if he had done something to change the friendship that we had, but there was no chance. It was one of the reasons I couldn't rest easy last night.
The sun was already peeking from the horizon. The gentle breeze made the curtains slowly sway as I watched the sky turn bright blue. A few moments pass, then I decided to finally stand up and do my morning routine.
After washing my face, I headed out the door towards the stairs. I slowly crept down, checking if my mom was already awake, and to my relief, she wasn't there yet.
I heated some water, enough for two cups of instant coffee, then I took a pack of biscuits from the cupboard. The water boiled and then I was done preparing breakfast. I placed one of the cups and a small plate of biscuits on a tray then headed upstairs.
"Mom?" I called out from outside the door. Usually, my mother would be awake at this time in the morning preparing for work, but yesterday was Friday, and Fridays aren't really her best days. A lot of times she would go home tired and grumpy, and would usually miss her alarms the next morning.
After a few moments, the door finally opened.
"Good morning mom," I greeted as I reached the tray to her. She looked a bit surprised with my sudden gesture, then she frowned a bit. "What's the matter?" I asked.
"Nothing... It's just— you know, your dad used to do this for me back then," she sighs.
A frown also formed in my face as I thought of him too. "I'll head down now to have my breakfast," I smiled.
"Wait," she said before going in her room. A few seconds later, she came back, and reached me my phone. "Lucas called last night, he said you were going to spend a day out with them."
"...Lucas?!" I exclaimed in shock. He's here now too? "Did they say anything else, like, where and what time will we meet?"
"No, but he said he'll text you. I didn't read your messages," she replied. "I'm sorry for last night sweetie, I was just tired."
"It's okay mom, I know," I assured. "I'll go now to get ready!"
With that, I rushed downwards. While I was swallowing down my breakfast, I checked my phone to see that the time is 6:28, below was a notification which said I had 5 unread messages.
