"And you said I was going to get lost," Doyoung chuckled, licking his vanilla ice cream off the cheap plastic spoon.
I shook my head and muttered, "Whatever." I took another bite of my peanut butter chocolate ice cream and said, "But really, thanks. I would've been in trouble if it weren't for you."
Doyoung sighed and said, "You would've been fine without me. You probably would've kicked him like you did that Japanese guy."
I laughed at this but covered my face with my hand in embarrassment. We continued to eat until I said, "If there's anything I can do to repay you, I'll gladly do it."
"You already did with the ice cream," Doyoung explained.
I waved my hand around and said, "No, this was nothing. Consider this just a treat."
He nodded and then thought for a few moments. Finally he looked up and replied, "Whenever I want, you have to be my audience when I sing."
Well that didn't sound half as bad as I thought it would be. I thought it would be more like, "Wear that giraffe onesie and do a stupid dance so I can record it and use it for blackmail later on." This was actually something that could end up being enjoyable. I sighed, acting like I wished he'd picked something else. "Okay," I nodded.
"Melody!" Taeyong, Jaehyun, and Yuta appeared next to us. "You worried us, wandering off like that!" Taeyong frowned down at me.
I frowned back at him and said, "Well, if you were so worried, why didn't you all come to look for me? Huh?"
"We would've," Jaehyun answered, "But Doyoung ran off first and told us to meet you here."
My eyes widened. Doyoung went to find me on his own? Before my friends? I looked at him and he looked down, suddenly very interested in his ice cream.
"I was just the first to notice," he explained. "And I didn't run," he added, licking his spoon. I thought I saw a faint blush come to his cheeks and was almost flattered until he said, "I only run if it's important."
Jaehyun grinned and said, "If you don't wanna say you care or anything, that's completely up to you, but...," he trailed off, raising his eyebrows. Doyoung opened his mouth to say something, but Jaehyun cut him off, "Just remember that caring isn't a bad thing."
Doyoung narrowed his eyes slightly, but then went back to eating his ice cream. He scraped the last bits out of the bottom of the cup and stood up, walking to the trash can. "If you're all done, let's go," he pointed his thumb behind him to the door.
"Wait!" I yelped, shoveling my ice cream into my mouth as I stood up, almost knocking my chair over. "I'm not done yet."
Doyoung shook his head and left the store. Taeyong grabbed my arm and said, "Slow down. You're gonna choke. And if he goes ahead, it's fine. He's old enough to be alone." He grabbed a napkin and wiped my mouth.
"Thanks, Mommy," I laughed, "But if I lose him my mom will kill me. And my phone's dead, so I can't call him." I rushed to the door, throwing my now empty ice cream cup in the trash on the way.
"Hey, how do you have his number already?" Yuta asked, him and Jaehyun following Taeyong and I. "It took me 3 months to get yours."
I frowned and waved a hand, "He said his mom made him."
"And you gave it to him?" Taeyong questioned.
I shrugged and said, "He took my phone and I didn't know what he was doing."
We exited the store and I was surprised to see Doyoung waiting outside. He saw me and said, "You're slow. Let's go."
"Sure," I replied. As we were walking through the isles of a clothing store, I ran up next to Doyoung, who was halfheartedly flipping through some shirts. "Were you really worried?" I asked, sticking my face into his view.
