She was like a flower
A rose to be precise
She looked beautiful from afar
And even more up close
But she pricked anyone who got too close
She put up her defenses
And shut all her doors
Cause she was scared of being hurt
She said she saw what love could do
And didn't want any part at all
But I told her
That I would rather a tragic love
Than to never feel this way
She said that she'd seen love turn the wisest of men crazy
Drive them to the brink of insanity
Then tip them over and watch them fall
I told her that I'd seen love turn the most damaged of men
Slowly into one who wasn't afraid to believe
Giving them hope and watching them smile
She scoffed and told me love was for fools
I held her hand in spite of how she pricked me
And said that for her I would remain a fool forever
She said love hurts
I said love heals
She said love destroys
I said love builds
She said anyone who loves carries the risk of hate
I said I would bare that risk with all of my heart if she let me in
She said love burns and it left a scar on heart
I told her I was ready to to help her heal
If she would just let me in
She said that she was scared of being hurt
Then I looked into her eyes
And told her
That at least we would be in it together
