The United States Navy is the most modern and powerful branch of the military. It is one of the few navies in the world that operates aircraft carriers and boasts a significant amount of other capital ships. The Navy maintains a presence in two oceans, the Pacific and the Atlantic, with the Pacific Fleet being the stronger of the two. While still lagging behind, the US Navy is one of the few that could come close to rivalling Germany's Kaiserliche Marine.

It's January 6, 1936 right outside Norfolk, Virginia. The Naval Base Entry Controller was reading a paper with the headline

"Russian President Assassinated
on the way to the Duma"

EC: What a way to start a Friday.

Further into the Naval Yard we have a group of the Navy's proud heavy hitters having a discussion.

Pennsylvania: I still don't agree with the Navy's decision!

The elder of the Pennsylvania class protested.

Arizona: There's nothing we can do Penny. Admiral Turner agreed with The President on our new naval initiative.

Pennsylvania: Hello sisters. And yes the US Navy's new "Carrier" Initiative.

Nevada: Oh that. Yeah with the way the brass talks, our days as queens of the sea are over.

Arizona: Not all of them. Admiral Kimmel is on our side and I think Admiral Kinkade is as well.

Pennsylvania: They're more for integration rather than preservation. They like carriers too but at least they haven't forgotten about us.

???: No one has forgotten about you.

They for Pennsylvania girls looked to see the newer addition to the Naval Yards.

The USS Langley

The USS Langley. The first of the Langley Class Experimental Aircraft Carriers.

Langley: Neither myself, nor anyone else would dare forget America's Queens of the Ocean. The Pride and Strength of our Navy.

Pennsylvania: We appreciate the though Langley, but we're not looking for sympathy.

Langley: It's not Sympathy if it's the truth. I would never dare to set sail without the battleships.

This made the others soften a little, but it did not calm their worries of becoming obsolete.

Nevada: Aren't they making a new class of carriers already though?

Langley: Yes and No. Not exactly new, they're taking the hulls of the Yorktown Class and converting them from Fast Battleships to Fleet Carriers.

Arizona: What are Fleet Carriers?

Langley: They're designed to be able to sail all distances with the main fleets and provide complete support in Land, Sea, and Air Operations. They can carry a complement of 60-90 fighters and bombers.

Oklahoma: Can those tiny planes really damage us?

Pennsylvania: They really can. They can directly hit our turrets and bridges.

Langley: Not only that, but the could penetrate the decks and hit the vital areas, but the main concern is our torpedo bombers. Striking right below the surface and filling you up with water. Though our pilots are pretty green and the techniques are untested.

Nevada: From what I've been hearing the dock workers talking about you may get your chance.

Pennsylvania: That's enough of that Nevada!

Nevada: I'm just saying. Everyone is talking about how everything is falling apart. I don't want to end up fighting my own sisters!

Pennsylvania: We will trust in our leadership. And we won't Nevada. We won't.

Langley: Still we need to be on guard. I feel as though the entire world could be drawn into a conflict in which we will play a pivotal role in.
