If I remember correctly, Sans and Papyrus are the gods of death right? Like the grim reapers. I'm pretty sure Papyrus is the god of peaceful death and Sans is probably the god of painful death or something like that.
I'm pretty sure that means that Papyrus is some kind of leader to heaven and Sans is leader to hell
Would you think that instead of being hated by everyone for being the gods of death, people kinda like, idk, respect them, especially Papyrus?
Maybe sure, Sans would probably be more feared than loved, but I'd think it wouldn't escalate to hate right? And Papyrus would probably appear a lot as statues in cemeteries, probably especially near child or pet cemeteries

Ok someone back me up here because I can't give out an example of people liking Sans as the god of painful death but seriously I don't think he would be that hated like what the fandom usually thinks
