~~~~~I thought it would be a nice change to see the story through Raoul's P.O.V. Enjoy! :D~~~~~
I woke up to something crashing. I was immediately awake. I jolted upright and looked around wildly, my wolf on high alert for danger. I caught a pair of green eyes looking at me with fear.
My mate was stumbling back, her golden brown hair wildly thrown about her. She looked at me with, fear? I could smell it rolling off of her in waves. I was confused.
“What’s wrong Nathina?” I asked, taking a step toward her.
I watched as her green eyes bulged and she stumbled back. “S-stay back,” she growled.
I froze, feeling hurt. “Nathina, what’s wrong?” I asked, sounding hurt.
“Do not take one step closer to me,” she growled. I watched her look around wildly and settle on the window.
“Why?” I asked, confused. I took another step toward her, trying to comfort my mate.
I watched as she took another step away from me. “I said stay where you are!” she snarled.
“Nathina,” I said painfully, “what, what did I do? I would never hurt you, never.”
“You lie!” she snarled. “You remember what you did to me last night!” she ended in a scream.
I felt like I had been shot in my heart at her words. She was my mate, I would never hurt her! I loved her! “I never did anything,” I said. “Why are you doing this? To prove something?”
I heard knocking on the door.
“Nathina, are you all right?” I heard her mother ask.
I took another step toward her in her distraction. My wolf was going crazy, but was too confused to know what to do.
I watched as my mate turned and looked at me with utter terror in her eyes. “I said stop!” she screamed at me. I stopped mid-step, feeling shocked. I heard people banging on the door, demanding to be let in. I felt my wolf shaking. She started to cry silently, making my heart twist in agony. “Why?!” she accused me, looking me in the eye. “You should have never drunk! NEVER! Now look what has happened!”
I was beyond confused. “Nothing happened,” I said.
In a snarl only I could hear, she snarled, “You took me against my will! If I end up pregnant then I shall never forgive you!” Someone was trying to break down the door. I heard the hinges creaking.
In her distraction from the door, I started to walk toward her again. All I wanted was to wrap my arms around her and figure things out. Her attention snapped back to me instantly. She was terrified. “Stay away!” she screamed. I kept walking, murmuring to her about how I had never done so. She gave a shriek and ran for the window. She did not even pause as she jumped and slammed into the glass. The force was too much for the glass and it shattered as she fell through, shifting in mid air. Crystal shards rained down about her as she fell. I heard my bedroom door break and crash as people ran in and I heard all of us screaming for her, rushing for the window.
I stared down in dread at my mate as she ran for the forest as fast as she could, leaving a trail of blood. A moment later another red wolf was running in the same direction as her, carrying clothes.
I stood there for over an hour, clutching the window sill with clenched knuckles. I stared at the spot she had landed, at all the broken glass. My wolf was howling with confusion, anger, loss, and much more. I didn’t even notice when everyone else had left.
“Are you alive or a statue?” someone called behind me.
I turned and saw my mother standing in the doorframe wearing a pink robe, a hand on one hip and her head cocked to the side. Her black eyes searched mine but I stared back at her blankly. My wolf whimpered.
“Sit,” she ordered me, motioning to the bed.
I sat down numbly next to her and put my head in my hands. “What did I do?” I whimpered.
I felt my mother put an arm around me. “Shh,” she soothed. “Give her time. She’s been through a lot.”
“But she was so angry at me,” I murmured. “And she accused me of something I didn’t do.”
“Give her time,” my mother repeated. “Let her cool down and think. Maybe she had a nightmare.”
“Maybe,” I said with a little hope. “There has been a lot of stress on her. A lot has happened to her in so short of a time.”
“Exactly,” my mother said softly, standing up. “I’ll leave you alone now.”
I lay back on the bed with my arms over my head and sighed. I looked at the night-sky-painted ceiling and thought. My wolf was kept busy with his own thoughts.
People kept coming by all day to ask if I needed anything, offer breakfast –then lunch-, report, etc., but I ignored them, only acknowledging the reports. Hours passed and I kept tossing and turning on the bed, trying to understand.
It was late in the evening when I finally felt her presence return. I jumped out of bed and threw on some random clothes -hoping they weren't women's clothes- and bolted out the door. I ran for the stairs and only then did I slow down and descend. When I reached the bottom stair I stopped, my breath catching in my throat as I saw my mate with her friend. They were heading away from me. I froze as my mate turned around to face me, snarling.
‘Go away,’ she snarled. Her green eyes were as hard as emeralds.
‘But, Nathina,’ I started, taking a step toward her. I wanted to understand!
She snarled at me. ‘One more step and I shall shred you,’ she snarled. ‘Leave me alone. You have hurt me enough.’
I felt like my heart had just been shattered and felt tears gather. Still, she turned around and walked off. Shara kept throwing glares at me as they went down the hallway.
I stood there for a moment more. Then, silently, I made a promise to myself. ‘I will have you back. You are my mate and I will always be watching out for you, no matter what you say. I love you.’
