31 Day Disney Challenge

Day 1

Your favorite movie

Well crap. I love a lot of Disney movies. I'll name my top 3 and explain why, okay? To clarify, these are in no particular order, because I love all 3 of these movies equally for different reasons.

1. Hercules
hOneY, yOu MeAN HuNkuleS
I don't actually think this is a good Disney movie at all, but I really really love it. It's so good! The music, however little of it there is, is all fantastic (Special mention to "Go The Distance") and the vocal castings, wow, the CASTINGS! Danny DeVito as Phil, Rip Torn as Zeus, and James Woods as HADES! I typically hate the fire-and-brimstone Hades that modern media makes him because of Satan. However, James Woods is so witty and fun to watch as the lord of the dead that I don't really care.

Did you know his name isn't actually Hercules? Points if you know what it is.

2. Mulan
Yeah, this one's an obvious pick if you know me. I love the scenes in Mulan. They're all incredibly pretty. I also think the message is presented here wonderfully. Women can be powerful too. More powerful than men, in fact. But what I love is that they didn't present the message in a self-congratulatory or pretentious way, which is something modern Disney writers can't seem to do. HEYO!!! Also yeah, Mulan is the 2nd best Disney Princess, Shang is bisexual and "Make a Man Out Of You" is FOR👏🏼THE👏🏼BOYS👏🏼!

3. Tangled
Notice I said Mulan is 2nd best Disney Princess. Yep, that's cause my girl Rapunzel is #1. I adore this movie's characters. So much. Like, guys, I wanna level with you. Flynn Rider is my favorite character in the "traditional" Disney Princess movies. "I See The Light" is peak Disney Love Song, and all of the art direction is a home-run. But the characters are so well-written, guys. Mother Gothel is an amazing dramatic irony villain, Pascal and Maximus are some of the better (and best) animal companions in Disney and Rapunzel herself is so incredibly good. Tangled is probably my favorite traditional Disney Princess movie.
