Your favorite villain song
AHAHAHA! Yes! This is exactly what I've waited for! Strap in, because we're going for a ride!
Shiny
I've already talked about this song in previous parts but allow me to enlighten you. It's so out of place and out of nowhere, that it absolutely steals the show. It helps that Tamatoa is charismatic as all get out and this drives home the plain vanity of his character.
Mother Knows Best
Gah, this song makes my skin crawl. The deceit and deception are dripping off of this song as Gothel convinces Rapunzel that the world is a nightmare. Gothel reminds me of people in my life, too. Be it maternal or not, that sheer desire to control so much for purely selfish reasons really clicks with me. Each sweet cadence and major chord adds to the unease because this song is so chipper, despite subliminally being so sinister.
Gaston
This song loses some points because it's not directly sung by the villain for like 80% of it but I don't really care because this song is a fantastic way to build the villain. It shows his character expertly through a huge ego stroking. It's put on like a drinking song too, which adds to its charm. Kill The Beast may be the actual villain song, but there's a reason everyone remembers this one more.
Be Prepared
This should surprise no one. Most of this comes down to the vocal performance, because it's that good, but a massive credit is also given to the visuals because WOW. This song is war propaganda in its best form.
I-is it okay now? Can I talk about it?
Is it finally time enough to talk about Hel-
CRASH
OH BEATA MARIA!
Hellfire
You all saw it coming. You knew it'd be here. Don't be surprised. Hellfire is the perfect villain song. No, it goes BEYOND the perfect villain song. It's objectively the best villain song in any media. The booming choruses, the climactic symphony, and all of it is topped with Frollo's vocal performance. AUGH THIS SONG IS SO GOOD!!!
I'd like to give some honorable mentions, because there are a lot of good villain songs.
Savages: If it didn't "both sides" the horrible practice of colonialism, I would consider this more. Otherwise, it's a good song in a bad movie.
Friends on the Other Side: I adore this song's visuals and the smooth jazzy voice of Facilier is like butter. Unfortunately, the middle kills the pace of this song.
Poor Unfortunate Souls: I like it. That's about it.
