The way the guys walked through the halls reminded me of mean girls, Lucian being Regina George because he’s mean. The girls swooned standing against the lockers and I just stared in disbelief. This is unreal and just plain ridiculous. These boys aren’t famous. They are just troublemakers who live in a foster home.

I just don’t get it. Don’t get me wrong, I can admit that they are an attractive group of guys, but I thought scenes like this only exist in novels and movies.

“Just ignore them.” Elliot smiled at me.

“I can practically smell the desperation on them. What’s that all about?” A fifteen year old boy like Elliot should get ‘come hither’ eyes from seniors. That’s just wrong.

“Jack and June don’t let us date. They think that it will ruin any progress that we have made towards becoming a ‘productive member of society.’” He used air quotes. “They see us as bad boys who are untouchable. Some girls have big egos and are determined. If they don’t get what they want, like a date with Sawyer for example, they will just keep at it. It becomes a challenge on who can tie down one of us first. Then, there are the girls who follow the crowd. It is quite annoying.”

I’m not allowed to date? Boys are the last thing on my mind right now, but isn’t taking away my right to date against the law or something? “That’s stupid and you can’t tell me that Sawyer does not get his fair share of booty.”

Elliot laughed. “They can’t stop us from flirting or doing other stuff at school. As long as we don’t get caught, everything is legal.”

“That is a horrible motto for someone who is trying to refrain from breaking the law.” I shook my head with fake disapproval.

“That’s my motto too, darlin’” Sawyer said from behind me. “You can punish me if you’d like.”

I didn’t even bother answering him.

“Get your head out of the gutter boy.” Blake shoved Sawyer. Blake definitely had the most muscle mass out of the guys. I have never seen someone with red hair have so many tattoos and have such huge arms.

One by one each of the boys disappeared into a classroom until it was only Lucian and I left. “Are you leading me to my class or am I just going to wander around until I stumble upon it?” I asked the moody boy.

“Personally, I don’t give a damn what the hell you do.” He didn’t even look at me.

“Well then.” I muttered and looked the the schedule that Ethan handed me when we first walked inside the school.

He sighed. “You are in my homeroom. After that, you are on your own.”

“Aw, thanks for helping me, Luke.” I said in an obviously fake voice.

He ground his jaw. “Now, you are just doing that on purpose, bitch.”

“What am I doing on purpose?” I gave him an innocent look. “Is it your name again? I’m just meeting a lot of new people at once and let’s face it. Some people are just more memorable than others.”

“You know what?” He stopped and glared at me for a second. “Find your own damn way.” He started walking at a fast pace and disappeared from sight.

“That’s right. Run, Regina George, run.”

I was ten minutes late for homeroom.

When I walked into the room, the teacher stopped talking. I saw Lucian sitting in the back row, smirking.

“Well, you must be Ivory Samson.” The teacher was a overweight balding man.

He looked at me as if expecting me to say something. “Uh, yeah.”

He narrowed his eyes. “Attitude problem, we’re going to have to something to fix that. Why were you late?”

“It’s my first day.” I looked at him like he was stupid. “I got lost.” I said in a ‘duh’ voice.

“As if I would believe that. Women are such liars these days.” He full out glared at him.

I scoffed at him unable to hold in the sass. “It’s not my fault if your wife left you, cheated on you or whatever happened to you to make you such a woman hater. Frankly, I do not see how any woman could stand even looking at you. You just have one of those faces not even a mother could love.” I stopped talking. If I get thrown out of this school, I’m going to juvie.

His face went bright red. “To the principal’s office!” He yelled at me.

”What would I tell him when I got there? That my teacher is punishing me for being female? That he insulted me by calling me a liar, yet could not take it when I defended myself?” I stared him in the eye, showing him that I wouldn’t back down.

He stared shaking in anger. “Get out of my classroom!”

That’s better than the principal’s office, so I shrugged. “Sure. I saw a vending machine in the hallway. I’m dying to have a Snickers bar. Does anyone have a dollar?” I looked at the class.

A boy in the front row handed me money and I thanked him.

“See ya tomorrow, Anger Issues.” I waved at the teacher as I walked out of the classroom. I’m really hoping that doesn’t come back to bite me in the butt. I just can’t stand teachers like him. They need to leave their home lives at home.

I met up with the guys at their lunch table later that day.

I sat in between Elliot and Blake.

There were seven of us and only eight chairs at the table, leaving room for no one else. Ethan bought my lunch for me because I forgot to get money from June this morning. Elliot asked me about my day and Blake opened my water bottle for me. Sawyer just sat across from me and winked. “Okay, enough.” I snapped at them. Everyone but Lucian and Reese have been nice to me since this morning. Blake wasn’t a friendly guy, but he has been acting as if we were friends. “What happened between yesterday and today? Before everyone but Elliot and Sawyer ignored me and now you are acting like I’m one of you.”

Elliot looked down at the table and didn’t say anything. That right there told me that something did happen.

“What is it?” I stared at all of them.

Lucian sighed. “My mom told us about your brother dying and that your parents are unfit.”

My jaw went slack. The guys were only being nice to me because they pity me? I wonder what they would think if they knew that little Brooklyn’s death was my fault.

“Don’t pity me. I haven’t snooped into any of your lives!” I yelled at them, not caring if it attracted attention. “My story is none of your business! In seven months, I hope to never see any of you again.” I spat at them before standing and storming out of the cafeteria.
