Praying for the present is great and everything but I feel that praying for a time in the future when you can't bring yourself to pray, or you get so lost in your troubles that you forget to pray is something equally, if not more precious. Sending that prayer to someone in the future makes it all the more priceless. Like a letter of hope in a bottle some poor marooned soul finds in a sea of despair.
