Love Is The Cure

The Virus

It was rare love at first sight, as Alliyah saw Seth perusing for a book in the library.

At first, she assumed that he was mortal like her, but discovered one morning as Seth flinched from sunlight that he was a vamp or a hemo.

It didn't matter to her what he indeed was, and it relieved Seth that he could be himself around her.

It was typical back then, supernatural and human beings coexisted together. They went to school, worked, hung out, etc.

It was beautifully ordinary, including when after almost a year of dating, Seth proposed to her.

No one could tell her that dreams couldn't come right, especially having a soulmate like Seth, who promises to love her for an eternity.

If only they knew that their dream would soon turn into a nightmare. It wasn't until two months after the proposal that an epidemic had risen to a threatening degree.

The scientists discovered that not only humans were susceptible to this virus but supernatural beings as well.

The virus was able to attack the immune system directly by camouflaging into supposedly helpful bacteria and, when coming into contact, will strike.

It became so threatening from everyone dying left to right, that the president and supernatural leaders instructed that whoever is sick will be taken to an unknown area to be treated.

Alliyah was one of the scientists that were to help find a cure before everyone ceases to exist. She had just begun when getting a call from her fiancee, Seth.

Ring Ring Ring

"Hello?"

"Alliyah, I need to tell you something quickly, " Seth said in a hushed tone.

"What is it, babe?"

"I just received terrible news; the leaders had only issued an order for vampires to go with the infected."

"What? Why?"

"They are saying that we are responsible for the virus, " he explained with anger.

"But that's ridiculous; vampires are getting sick as well, " She exclaimed

"They believe that we simply sacrificed a few just to get others off of our trail."

"I'm coming home, " Alliyah announced to him as she reached for her keys.

"No, you need to stay there and help find the cure,"

"I refuse just to stand by!"

"I know, but they are looking for those who are associated with our kind, so I need you to stay away." He instructed with reluctance.

"I just can't let them take you, " she said with a choke of emotion.

"I won't allow anyone to take me; I'll be in hiding, "

Alliyah could hear the confidence in his tone and shook her head with a chuckle.

"Promise me that you'll be safe, "

"If you promise to find the cure before it's too late,"

"Cross my heart, Seth, "

"Hope to live, Alliyah, "

They said their goodbyes, and even though she knew that he loved her, it didn't help that fear began to eating away in her heart.

I will find this cure! she thought with burning determination
