Kathryn lives at her dad's ranch when her parents split up. Kathryn is upset and hurt, her grades start slipping and to her nothing is like it used to be. Kathryn's best friends Rachel and Christy don't even understand her anymore. Everything seems to have fallen apart. Her dad is getting re married and Kathryn is being forced to be the bridesmaid. Kathryn thinks that all this is unfair happening to her. Ever since her parents gotten divorced everything bad even the un possible, has happened. Kathryn feels like she has been defeated, but suddenly luck comes her way.

When Kathryn encounters a wild mustang, she finds out that something is special about him. No other horse is all black with white face markings. This horse understands her, just like she understands him. They both need each other. The mustang will get killed if found, and Kathryn needs too see that good things can happen. Kathryn has the heart, while The mustang has the wildness. This makes them a Flame, If only Kathryn can make her dad see the ways she does about this horse. Time is running out for the Wild mustangs life. Kathryn needs to try everything, hopefully everything is the best that she can do. If so then the mustang (Flame) will finally have a home and Kathryn will finally be herself again. Then all the pieces can be put together.
