As If Things Couldn't Get Any Worse

I didn't want to go to school. Seeing my ex friends, Cole and being reminded of what happened was all just too much for me to handle. With some convincing I got to stay home Today while veryone els went to school. I worked on my homework for a little bit, knowing that dad said he wanted to speak with me about somthing. He said he was going to have his girlfriend Mindy come over to chat with me. But exactly what did I need to chat about? Also what would she care? its not like she is my mom. i sighed and got up from my desk and walked down stairs. That was my worst mistake yet.

Mindy had honey brown hair. She had brown eyes. Almost like coffee brown. I starred at he in discust. She was not pretty but, stunning. She was young, looking like a model. My dad was one year older than her.  She sat on the couch next to him. She was shorter than him, but they wanted to talk to me about something... Exactly what was that something?

I sat down In the chair across from both of them. Mindy smiled at me. I crossed my arms against my chest waiting for someone to tell me what this was all about. 

" You must be Kat. I have heard alot of great things about you." Mindy said smiling at me. She stuck her hand out to shake my hand. I ingored the guesture and gave my dad a look. I saw hurt flash across of Mindy's face, but she shook it off before it was really noticable. 

" Its not Kat." I said sharply. " Its Kathlyn." I pointed out like it was ovbious. My dad shoulders got stiff. He looked annoyed. Well its his fault. I want to know whats going on.

" Oh...." Mindy said glancing hurtly at my dad. 

" Look Kat." My dad said. His eyes met mine. He was angry, but then it left his voice. " Mindy and I have been going out. And Today she got a new ring..." On Mindy's finger was a ruby ring. It was shinny and red. I didn't say anything, I was still confused and yet bored. 

" So you just wanted to get her a dumb ring? I honestly don't have time to waste...." My dad intrupted me. 

" Kat, your not getting this. I asked Mindy to get engaged with me." My dad held Mindy's hand. I froze not moving or binking.  " The wedding will be held in three weeks from now." My dad continued. Mindy looked at me, smiling like a scary clown. I gave her a death glare. I saw her flinch and look away.

" Dad. Do you want my opinion?" I asked fake smiling. My dad and Mindy nodded. 

" Well.... YOUR THE WORST DAD EVER! YOU HARDLY KNOWN HER AND YET YOU THINK ITS OKAY TO JUST GO UP TO A RANDOM GIRL. AND WITHOUT TELLING ME, UNTILL ITS TOO LATE!  YOUR CHEATING ON MOM. I AM NOT OKAY WITH THIS!" I yelled. I spun out of the house without another word. I ran to the barn and tacked up Misty. I mounted on her. I heard my dad calling my named but before he could stop me, I healed Mitsy into a canter.

I couldn't keep this bad luck up. I can't take it anymore. I cantered out to the medow where mom first took me riding. I had learned how to ride Misty and my mom once told me that riding would help if your upset. Its helping right now. I slowed Misty to a walk, loosening the reins. I wanted to throw a fit and beg for my dad to get rid of Mindy. She was nothing like mom. What he doesn't know is that nothing ever can replace mom. Mindy is just too perfect and my dad does't know what he gave up. Tears blurred my vision. It became harder to breath. I rested my head on Misty's neck, letting her walk where ever she wanted. Now nothing would be the same. All my hope of everything turning good was gone. 

I don't know how long I was crying, but Misty's mane turned wet. It slowly turned darker. I knew that I would have to go home. I walked back. I just wanted to stay away from my dad as long as I could.

I dismounted and hooked Misty to crossties. After I untacked her and groomed her, I put her back into her stall with fresh food. I feed the rest of the horses and then sighing, went back into the house with a hug from Misty. My dad and Mindy watched me as I went upstairs to my room. I ingored my dad for the rest fo the night. He would force me to go to school tomorrow, I just knew it.

In the morning I took a nice warm shower and put on a light blue tshirt with a horse head on it, my braclet, a white scarf  with blue flowers on it,  black dark jeans and my sneakers. I put my hair up Today. 

After I finished eating I got my backpack ready. My dad walked into the kitchen looking at me. I shut the door cutting off his words. I walked up to Misty, giving her a quick huge and sugar cube before racing out to the bus. I sat In the middle of the bus. Christy sat in the very front, not wanting to see me. I let out a sigh of relef. I didn't want Today (Wednesday) to be as awful as Monday. The rest of the bus ride to seem almost at ease. 

I walked up to my first class, math today. Mr. Larson seemed in a delightful mood. 

" Okay class, I figured that I would give a pop quiz today on Yestraday's lesson. If you weren't here your going to take it anyway. It will count as a big grade, so try your best." Mr. Larson handed all of us a two- double sided quiz. I didn't understand any of it. I sighed, trying to guess the anwsers. The bell rang and Mr. Larson handed our papers back, finished and graded. I wasn't suprised that I didn't do good. But, I had expected to at least be close to the anwser. I got zero right out of twenty. I left math and went to my class. All ready my day started out bad and was going to stay like that.

It was twenty minutes into my Mod, We were pplaying basket ball. I worked on shooting. Then the sub (Our regular gym teacher is out because she got hit in the head with a soccor ball) blew the  whissle. 

" Pair up in to teams." She yelled. I had no team. I glanced at Cole who was laughing with his buddies. I sighed wishing that I could be on a team. 

" Kathlyn go to Cole's group." I wanted to run away but, I mumbled somthing under my breath and walked over next to Cole. I didn't like this. 

" Leaders start warming up your teams." Of corse Cole was the leader. Cole passed me the ball and I made a basket. He gave me an encouraging smile. For the rest of gym we practiced, and then played basketball.

I walked to science where Rachel was sitting next to Sarah. Sarah was popular and pretty. She had dated Cole before. I could see why. Cole was so hot, like to drool over, while Sarah was flawless and cute. They were such a perfect couple. I sat down next to Rachel, forgetting what I said to them.

" Ummmm, do you want to move Sarah?" Rachel asked looking at me like I was a gross bug. I watched them walk over to where the boys sat, geting attention. I was all alone, once again. I driffted off, doodling in my notebook. Finally lunch came..... 

I walked into the cafiteria. No where to sit. Cole saw me. He walked over to me.

" Look, I know its none of my conceren but why don't you come sit with me and my friends?" He asked. His dark blue / violet eyes searched my face for a response. I wanted to go sit with him, but something made me stop. Sarah was sitting at his table with Rachel and Christy. I shook my head and walked over to the table in the far end cornner. I was gone, broken and all my friends ditched me. I didn't feel like getting up to get lunch, I wated till lnch was over and went to my next class.

LA we got our hero's jorney test back, I got another F. This time I got one out of five right. For the rest of school,  I didn't pay attention to the rest of my classes. I left the second the last bell rang, saying school was over.

I walked back home and I noticed Mindy standing in the room waiting for me. I cound't stand another second of the stress so, I walked into the kitchen, got a water and then I went into my room. I took a long sip of water. I was perched on my bed half crying, but inside. No real tears came, just throbbing hurt and emotions inside of me. My dad walked in and studdied me. He finally gave up on trying to talk to me and left me along. All that was on my floor was a note, that be left.

I let out small wimper, I was shaking. As if I couldn't control myself anymore I took my big text book and threw it down that stairs. I crawled back into bed and fell asleep, even though school just ended and it was 2:34.................

Countrygirl1055, Thanks for reading the book! I am sorry if this chapter was too short, or too long. I am just trying to get to the part where Kat sees the horse! (Note: That will be the next chapter!)
