The hum of the washing machine filled the quiet house as I loaded the baby clothes and the soft bed set into the new washer. Everyone else had left—except Cesar and me.
Tony came up behind me, slipping his arms around my waist. "The nursery's ready when they get back."
I nodded, pulling out my phone to show him the pictures Lauren sent. "Lauren says they're on their way. Our godson is sleeping like an angel."
Tony glanced at the screen, then sighed as a voicemail beeped. He stepped outside, phone to his ear, then came back over to me and leaned his head on my shoulder.
"Why don't you try the rehab place?" I suggested softly. "They said they'd hire you. I'm good working from home and focusing on my writing."
Tony nodded slowly, pulled out his phone, and dialed the rehab place. I squeezed his hand, holding him close.
Oscar's POV
Lauren, Logan, and I stepped into the nursery. The soft pastel walls, the cozy crib, and the gentle glow of a nightlight made the room feel like a haven.
Cesar was putting the finishing touches on a mobile hanging above the crib.
"You guys didn't have to do all this," I said, my voice thick with gratitude.
Cesar looked up, smiling warmly. "We wanted to make my nephew feel at home."
Lauren's eyes shimmered with tears as she settled into the rocker, cradling Logan and feeding him a bottle. "You guys thought of everything."
Cesar came around and knelt beside her, handing Logan a small teddy bear.
"This was mine," Cesar said quietly. "Oscar gave it to me when I was a baby. Now it's yours, Logan."
Logan's tiny fingers wrapped around the bear's soft paw as the room filled with a sense of family, love, and new beginnings.

Logan's face lit up with a tiny smile as he looked at the teddy bear in his hands. Lauren glanced over at Cesar, her voice soft.
"Do you mind if I move back a little? Just need some space to breathe."
Cesar's smile was gentle as he pulled her into a hug.
"Lauren, you're family. We understand why you were upset."
Just then, Tony stepped into the room and gave my back a light pat, leaning in to whisper.
"Flaca and I are heading home. She just got hit with a migraine, so I've got her in the car with the windows darkened."
Lauren looked up, concerned but calm.
"Oscar, love, I have migraine meds in my purse. Give them to her. Tony, it's one every twelve hours—they'll knock her out, but they really work."
