Upon Midnight

Chapter 2

"You live next door?!?" I shouted in shock when I saw Maxine coming out from the unit next to mine.

"Oo, kakalipat ko lang noong isang araw, noong tinulungan mo ako sa bar." Sagot niya. Kaya pala hindi ko alam na lumipat siya. Maghapon kasi kaming nasa galaan ng mga barkada ko noong araw na yon.

"Isn't this great? We're classmates and we live next to each other!" She exclaimed. What's so great about that? Great ba na mas madali niya akong makukulit?

"Uh nevermind that, I'm hungry. If you'll excuse me, bibili pa ako ng pagkain sa baba." I excused myself. Gutom na kasi ako. Baka maabala pa ng kadaldalan ng babaeng to.

"Bababa ka? Ako din! Tara sabay na tayo bumili ng pagkain." She offered. Ugh whatever.

"Do what you want. I'm starved." I replied. I can't afford to be delayed by this girl again.

"Let's go!"

We walked towards the elevator. It took a few moments before the elevator arrived. We went inside the elevator in silence.

"What are you gonna buy?" She muttered to break the silence.

"Food" Maikli kong sagot.

"I know but what kind of food?" She asked again.

"Dinner" I didn't bother to reply in a sentence.

"Tipid mo naman sumagot." She complained.

"What's your-" I quickly walked out when the elevator opened. I don't want to be questioned further.

We went to the café and looked for a spot. Luckily, it was not crowded. What would I expect? It was midnight for Christ's sake.

"What do you want?" I asked her. I'll order for both of us na lang.

"I'll have some chopsuey and rice. Here." She tried to give me money but I quickly refused.

"It's my treat." I reasoned.

I went to the cashier and said our orders. I ordered fried chicken and rice for my dinner. It was lucky this café was not limited to coffee and aldo offered food.

Dinala ko ang binili namin papunta sa table namin. Mabuti nalang hindi natagalan ang pagbigay ng order namin. I'm starved.

"Thanks" She thanked me.

"It's fine. Wag mo lang ako daldalin habang kumakain." I conditioned. Ayoko munang maistorbo kumain lalo na't gutom ako.

We ate silently. I finished before her so I played with my phone a bit. After a while, she finished eating.

"Let's go?" Pag alok nya.

We went out of the café and went back to the condo. We waited for the elevator for a few moments. We went in when the elevator opened.

"Are we friends yet?" She asked me. I'm not really sure but whatever.

"I don't know." I replied.

"Then let's be friends." She said. I don't really mind.

"Sure" I answered.

"Really? Yayyy!" She celebrated. So she's somehow cute when she smiles huh.

We went out as soon as the elevator opened. We hurried back to our units to sleep. May klase pa kami bukas.

"See you tomorrow Uno. Goodnight." She said as she was opening the door of her unit.

"Yeah, Goodnight." I replied.
