Jessica's POV
The next week passes by in a flash. It was hard, packing my bags and knowing that soon I would have to leave behind the place where there are so many good memories of my mom and dad.
But I also think that deep down, it's a relief.
and now I'm at the airport, saying goodbye to Grandma, Leah, Caiden, and Peter.
I hug Grandma tight. "I'll miss you. You always did take such good care of me."
"I'll miss you too, dear. It won't be the same without you." Grandma replies.
Leah is sobbing hysterically again. She throws her arms around me, almost knocking me off balance. "I'll miss you soooo much Jess!"
"I know Leah. I'll miss you too." I pull away from her tight grasp, trying not to be rude.
Caiden basically lifts me off of my feet, squeezing me into a hug. "Remember what I said Jess. Although I don't like that you have to leave, I really believe that this is what's best for you."
"Yeah," I mumble. I pull back and he smiles softly.
"I know you don't believe me. But someday you will."
Will I? I still don't know myself.
"Be good. Don't make me have to fly out there myself," he teases.
I roll my eyes. "You're one to talk."
I smile before turning to Pete.
"I'll miss you bro. Even if you are sending me of to the worst place possible."
"Oh c'mere squirt," He holds his arms out.
I'm about to say something sassy because of the way he calls me squirt, but I decide to keep my mouth shut and make the best out of it.
I hug him for a few seconds when he pulls away. He never has been much of a hugger. I can kind of relate to that. I only ever hug people that I am close to.
"You know it's for your own good," he comments.
"Whatever you say."
"Love you sis."
"Not more than I do!" I say, walking to the plane. "Bye everyone."
"Bye Jess," they all say.
I wave out the plane window once I'm on. The plane starts to move, and they get smaller and smaller until they disappear from my sight.
I sigh and look down at my hands. "Hmm... here I go," I mumble to myself as I get farther from the only home I've ever known.
*
Six and a half hours later, I land in Valdez, Alaska. Home sweet home to my never sober uncle Adam.
As soon as I get off the plane, I hear commotion in the crowd of people. Unsurprisingly, I see uncle Adam as the cause for it. He's swaying back and forth while trying to get to me. Hmm, what'd I tell you? Never sober, even with his own niece's arrival.
I see his hair is greasy and he's wearing some of the filthiest clothes I've ever seen in my life. I walk up to him, wondering when was the last time he took a shower.
"Hi uncle Ad-" I stop when I smell his alcohol reeking breath. "Blech! Gross!"
He blinks drunkenly "Now looky here missy," his words all slurred, "You get your attitude straight, you hear me?"
"Yeah, yeah I hear you. But hearing you isn't what I'm worried about. It's smelling you that is absolutely revolting," I say, plugging my nose.
"Shut up, and let's go," he says, heading towards the plane. The exact opposite of where we're supposed to be going...
